What's the best way to handle extremely slow play? It seems even more bothersome when your opponent is a kinda creepy person. I hate to run to the T. D. and snitch, but it definitely takes you out of your rythym...

I handle it by not playing that person again. If it's in a tourney, I'll ask for a shot clock, though that rarely happens in local events. Played in a local tourney recently and they did say slow play will result in a shot clock, so it does happen.

Become a patient man... Pool encompasses all types of people... I see it as just another part of the mental game... An annoying part... But still a part...

Slow shooters don't bother me... But frequent texters do... Esp when that's the reason you're slow.... Take your time to think about your shot... That's fine with me... But keep the cell phones away pls

Slow shooters don't just irritate the opponent, they can bring the schedule for the whole tournament down. So make a favour to everyone in the tournament and report to the TD.

Hope I don't hi-jack the thread but what is considered slow play? Is a minute to think about your shot considered too long? I would figure slow play probably really creeps up in a tournament setting because people know the shot they are about to shoot could be their last.

I agree with you. However, there are some shady characters who are definitely looking to screw you in the mental arena by breaking your pace with slow play. I operationally define slow play as anything over 60 seconds for a fairly simple shot ( a straight in with a required stop shot to get on the next ball to continue your run). It changes to three minutes with something that requires a bit more thought ( like how to get position by going two or more rails after a cut shot). I think the maximum I'm willing to be patient on is about five minutes for something that is of fair difficulty ( escaping a good safe by jumping the ball or going two/three/four rails). It also depends on the game. Those are my loose guidelines for 8/9/10 ball and 9 ball banks. It changes when I'm playing one pocket, 14.1, rotation, or full rack banks. As long as the guy/girl seems the be genuine in their pursuit of problem solving and winning through fairplay than I'm alright. When I sense otherwise..........there's gonna be smoke in the city :banghead:.

Play One Pocket

Learn to play One Pocket and you will never care how slow a guy plays again. I Love One Pocket, so when a guy slow plays me in 9 Ball or 8 Ball or Banks, it doesnt matter because I'm use to the slow play from One Pocket.

If you put a guy in a trap in One Pocket he has to play slow or hand you the cash, so I know when i leave the table that the guy is in trouble and is going to have ti figure something out or sale out...,

so I just have the same mind set in every game, whenits my turn your not going to like it, so I can wait!

Archer, Sivler O and Hill Billy are all slow as they come, but they get the job done!

I agree with this sentiment. As the opponent, it's not your place to say or do anything. One of the primary functions of a tournament director is to keep things moving along. Oftentimes, they're already aware of who is slow and are devising a way to address it. As a shooter, your primary function is to shoot. Keep it to that.

If you sit there and fuss over how the game should be played or being considerate, you're only building excuses for losing.

Bah humbug.

I already don't go to tournaments because I work a desk job. The last thing I want to do is rush home, grab my stuff and run off to a 7pm start for a tournament that won't finish until 1am. To have somebody slowing the whole thing down on top of that is unacceptable.

If you have a problem figuring out your shot and taking it, in 8 or 9, within a minute, go the ##$^ home or go pay table time. Because if you don't speed up, I'll make sure you know you're taking too long. If you don't get it then, I'll make sure the TD knows you're taking too long.

I'm there to play, not to grow old. If you want to take a long time, find somebody that accepts it, don't try forcing it on unwilling people - especially in a tournament!

In a tournament I played a few years ago, there was a lady that was doing alright, but every one of her matches ran late.. in a race to 2, I think. One was damn near an hour or so long. Everybody was so damn happy to see her get put out. Combine taking too freakin long with an excessive safety game and you're not going to have (m)any fans.

I just get on my phone. It entertains me the other times I'm bored, so why not during slow play?

I know phone use (even from the seated player) is sometimes seen as rude, but then again so is making people wait for no good reason.

I play a little slow sometimes so I don't really take it personally, or get thrown out of my (slow) rhythm. In fact it seems a little paranoid to think it's some kind of move. Usually the player is just inexperienced and nervous and has built a lengthy preshot routine that he's scared to deviate from.

The exception - If the seated player huffs and sighs and makes a production out of waiting, the shooter's gonna think "I see waiting gets in this guy's head, maybe I'll take an extra minute." So I make sure not to act fidgety or annoyed.

:withstupid:what he sed.

How would you like it if someone told you that you had to shoot in an unnatural time span?

Personally, i wont match up with aslow-player...but tourney? gotta deal with it.

60 seconds to play a straight-in stop shot and I'm on suicide watch.

It changes to three minutes with something that requires a bit more thought ( like how to get position by going two or more rails after a cut shot).

After three minutes I've taken the pills.

3 minutes, 5 minutes on a shot? I don't think so.
That's 30-45 minutes to run out a rack of 9-ball.... Imagine if someone put a 3-hour long 5-pack on you.

If you need more than 2 minutes to figure out a shot, you either don't know what to do, or an extremely indecisive person. Whichever it is, I wouldn't want to play you.

You can do what I've done a couple times..I took my cards
out of pool case an begain playing solitare..no kidding.
this did piss the guy off..he said some thing to the T.D..
but I wasn't holding up the game..simply passing time.
I some times do it while playing league too..could read
a book I guess..take banking with the Beard with me..supose
I'd be accused of cheating then..lol

Everything is about me me me me me me me........

Cry some more, or become more patient.

I can take your opinion of forcing slow shooting on someone else and turn it around. Why should you be allowed to force what your opponent perceives as fast shooting on them?

Try to realize you're not the only one in the world, most people don't give two shits about your desk job......

Really...thats alot of me's right there..lmao
