compressed piloted vs standard piloted joint

in the cue gallery 3 cues by davis-prince were described as having a compressed piloted joint

i was not familiar with the term and devilish48 described it like this

"When you thread the shaft onto a standard piloted joint, you just turn the shaft until the flat of the shaft contacts the flat of the butt. You feel little, if any, resistance while screwing the shaft onto the butt. With a compression fit, you will get resistance approximately 1/4 turn before the flat faces of the shaft and butt make contact. That it from the nipple being compressed by the inner opening of the butt section of the joint. That last 1/4 turn takes a good bit of effort to get the joint fully seated. The advantage of a compression joint, is more mating surfaces and a much tighter fit."

what do you all think af the pros and cons of that type of joint compared to the standard piloted joint??

Its really just another way to to do the piloted joint. The shaft wood that sticks out at the joint acts like a pilot for locating the shaft to the butt. I prefer them to be a very snug fit between the wood and the stainless collar on the butt. I personally believe it makes the cue a little more solid hitting. Its only a matter of .001"-.002" bigger diameter of the wood, but when you screw the shaft on to the butt it gives it a nice snug fit to the joint by compressing the wood slightly. You just have to make sure there is a tiny radius on the inside of the stainless steel collar so it doesnt shave the wood. Hope this explanation helps.

I dont like a snug fit when its an all wood joint though, like a true sneaky joint. Im always worried the wood will crack and split. Ive seen several (including one I own) Scruggs true sneakys with newer joints and collars put on because of the wood cracking.
