Fat Boy , just for the record about the sentences being too harsh for the crime, the crime that put Gabby away was cutting off the fingers of old rich ladies to steal the rings they were wearing. In this case I don't think the sentence was too harsh. I do agree that a guy caught smoking a joint serving 30 to life is way over the edge.---Smitty
SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT: The very next time anyone tell the Gabby story about the fingers and the rings you can tell them you read the newspaer article about the crime. This is from an AP article in a Texas Newspaer in 1999:
Man senteced to 40 for robbing woman, 86
HOUSTON (AP) — A man suspected in up to 30 attacks on
elderly women has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for
aggravated robbery.
Mouise Pouncey, 43, pleaded
guilty to one charge of aggravated robbery for the 1998 robbery
of an 86-year-old west Houston
woman who was knocked to the
ground for a ring she was wearing, prosecutor Steve
Baldassano said.
Three other charges against
Pouncey were dropped.
Visiting state District Judge Bill
Hatten sentenced Pouncey, who
must serve 20 years before he is
eligible for parole.
Baldassano said Pouncey is a
suspect in at least 26 other robberies from 1993 to 1998. In
those cases, he said, elderly
women wearing expensive rings
or other jewelry were targeted by
Pouncey and an accomplice,
who would wait for the women to
get out of their vehicles.
Houston police said they identified Pouncey by a fingerprint he
left on a victim’s car.
Other state and federal charges
are pending against Jackson,
who is in the Harris County Jail.
