Super Billiard Expo 2013

Super Billiards Expo 2013

I have posted ideas to make this event better. I am surprised in you Drawman mentioning names. Some of these names you mentioned did not do me right and a lot of people know the truth. I am not going into details at this time and I am not going to mention names. I would not go that low. But keep pushing and every body will know the truth about many things. Cues that were promised to me as well as deals that were not fair with all the possy in on it. I would advise you to leave it at that, however plenty of details can be said with credible people to back them up. I'm talking about gentelmen not pool junkies. Obviously you did not read what many AZer's had to say. Many had complaints and were not happy. You are entitled to your opinion but calling me out is wrong. BANKS " The Pain Was To Hard To Bare".

What can I say AZer's-except for I told you so. Call it the Venue, the format, or the layout-whatever you AZer's wish to call it. Plain and simple it was just horrible. Again concrete floors, cold atmosphere, no comfortable place to eat or sit amongst other things. At least you guys heard it from me first, many months before this 2013 Expo. I have been there before as I knew what to expect. These convention centers just don't cut it. At least I was smart enough not to reserve a hotel. A couple of hours was more than enough for me as well as for my friends. We could not wait to get out of this uncomfortable Convention Center. After all convention centers were made to conduct business conventions. They were not ment for comfortable vacation atmospheres. Besides saving money on a hotel room, I saved a lot by not purchasing any cues. I also succeeded tremendously by getting back a large refund on a cue that was promised to me but was never completed after years of waiting. Even though the Super Billiard Expo was a big disappointment to many, I expected this. And for the "icing on the cake", no heat in the "Great Hall" Friday night. So the Pro's played in the cold while the announcers complained about it on the live stream. "The pain was too hard to bare" seeing this event go down hill. Again what a shame! Nothing lasts forever. BANKS

I had a good time and I thought the place was just fine. Gourmet food was not available so I had some of what was there.... I didn't get sick or die... so it must have been good....

I'll probably go again next year....

With respect, I do not agree with your position here. The expo was GREAT! and though it was different than years past due to the venu and location, it was every bit the event of the year for me.

You say the floors were cold and hard...I brought comfortable chairs. Barry Szamboti and his son Jimmy were on hand signing autographs and sharing their time with folks graciously. Dennis Searing, Ron Haley and other Titans of the collectable cue world were there, in good spirits and reconnecting with customers and friends.

The Superbilliards Expo put money in my pocket and there was PLENTY of traffic through my booth every day. I AM A VENDOR so your remarks about the paper signs are to me, at the very least, uninformed. Alan provided a service to promote our business that offered custom vinyl printed items. Many cuemakers took advantage of this service and the signs looked great. I played it cheap and stuck with the paper...but I had my option to do it first class if I wanted to.

If you read nothing else in my post, consider this quote, made for me by Will Prout when I complained about the lack of parking for vendors: "what if Alan decided to take 2 or 3 years off..." I realized at that moment that I had my head up my a** and all whining stopped. It is the EXPO...The SHOW...so stow your griping and bring your stroke. If it's cold...it's cold for all players so adjust and win.

The only words I can agree with from your quote follow:
"I just don't understand how some people think"With that, you're right on the money.

You're good with me Joe, I call you a friend...met ironically at the Expo...but I've got to disagree with your criticism of the Expo.

Thanks Alan...once again...for running the show that is the high point of my pool year every year. Thanks AZrs for coming out and saying hello

Tap, tap.......
I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Your booth was awesome as usual. Where else can you hang out with the top 2 cue makers in the world!!!! Barry Szamboti and Dennis Searing!!!! You are not going to find two nicer gentlemen than those two. If only you had a nice sign....lol.

Thanks to you, Dennis and Kenny for making myself and anyone that stopped by your booth feel welcome! That is what really counts....not ancillary nonsense like carpet, signs and food....

You can't please everyone. 90% of the people enjoyed themselves, maybe for the other 10% it just wasn't there cup of tea. Or some people aren't happy unless they are complaining about something....

I applaud the Hopkins team for all their efforts ! Great show...

And tap, tap, tap to you! Think your estimate of 90% approval is low. Maybe more like 95%. Perhaps more. Regardless, the show was about pool. By pool fans. For pool fans. Given a choice of a fancy location, gourmet food and spectacular booths or a great pool event, I'm for the event!

While not my favorite venue for the SBE, much further for me, I still enjoyed it. I bought an awesome Hustler case from JB Cases which made teh entire day worthwhile. The professional arena could have and should have been much better. I liked the VIP section at Valley Forge. I would say this version was awkward. Being a new venue, it was hard finding some vendors, but I will be back next year.

I see their are people who agree with me. Sorry for those who's head is so far up you know what they cant seem to make there own determination. "R" us started his own post but had no response and even asked what others think. He couldn't make his own evaluation. Like I said the possy will stay together. The big names that were mentioned won 't reply only there possy. This is so funny. Banks "The Pain Was Too Hard To Bear" Thanks Crunch

Just curious: if people make their own determination that they enjoyed the show, why is that not acceptable to you? Is the only proper determination one that agrees with your opinion?

We understand that not everyone will love every aspect of the show. I fully grasp that you did not. We do our best to ensure that the maximum amount of people will enjoy the show overall. There is always room for improvements, and we work on these each successive year.

We are all aware that you did not enjoy the show, but there is no need to bash those folks that did. Which, honestly, far outweigh those that share your sentiments. Much to your chagrin. I'm sure.

Thanks again to everyone for being a part of the show. Without all of you, the show could never be a success and something that we all look forward to year after year.

On the contrary,it is acceptable to me. It seems it is not acceptable to you. However dear sir, There is a difference between making a suggestion and directly knocking someone and using names. Your just defending your show which is understandable however, you are getting a bit personal too. After all your making all the money. We are spending it to support this Expo. We also feel your not taken criticism that well. Again sometimes the truth hurts. Other AZer's Knock the food, Knock the parking , etc. I only made a few other suggestions to try to show where improvements can be made. I must have hit a sore spot. If you want to continue with paper sings hanging from bed sheets and non inviting booths with the same look year after year, so be it. Believe me, I am not loosing any sleep over this. FYI , it was a poll asking Azers what they thought. No responses were necessary , just votes and out of 81 voters- 70 liked the show and 11 did not. I guess now we know that not many agree with you....

How do you feel dissenting opinions are not acceptable to me? I have openly admitted that I know not everyone will be happy, and we listen to those opinions to work on things to improve.

And who are the "we" that also feel I do not take criticism well? Are you speaking collectively for the billiards community now?

I do not mind what your opinion is, you are entitled to it. But when you say that people who enjoy the show are "those who's [sic] head is so far up you know what they cant seem to make there own determination" then you are the one resorting to insults, not me. And you are not insulting me, you are insulting the people who visit and enjoy the show, of which there are many.

I have not directly knocked you or called you names, yet you imply that I have. I am merely curious why you insist upon implying that your opinion is reflective of such a large base of people (which perhaps it is), yet when others speak positively of the show, you insult them.

Of course I am interested in hearing feedback from the show, both good and bad. No matter what we do, there will never be 100% satisfaction. There is not that type of satisfaction level in any endeavor or public event. You have not hit a sore spot. My intent is merely to gather all the info out there and take it into consideration for future events.

And also, to prevent the dissemination of untruths. Such as your implication of paper signs hanging from bedsheets. The signs you speak of are name placards on cardboard professionally stenciled and labeling the booths, so that when vendors arrive to set-up, they can locate their booth. Some choose to leave them up, others take them down and replace with their own signage. Typical trade-show fare. And the "bedsheets" are traditional trade-show pipe-and-drape found in nearly every convention hall in the world.

The only reason I reply is to set the record straight, as you seem to wish to spread false information. We put a lot of personal effort and work into this show - so that it is enjoyable and successful for as many people as possible, so of course I will defend it when it's falsely indicted.

I'm sure you are not losing any sleep over it, it was obvious from your original post that your primary intent is to insult it. Which, of course, is fine. Mine is merely to defend it.

allen jr, well said. I enjoyed the show. I do believe there is room for improvement, but I will be there next year just as I been for the last 15 years.
Thanks for all of your hard work.

Dear Allen Hopkins Sr., Junior and Dawn.

As a 22 year old I was overwhelmed with the excitement of your show. That was in 1993. I think I have missed only one or two since and regretted it each time.

You guys put on a hell of a show. From my perspective I wish I could be three people to experience all that you offer.

Please keep it going because it's one of the brightest spots in pool and something that I personally look forward to each year!

Joe Banks,
This is for you!!!!!! :kma:

The show is designed for pool players, hell I would still go if it had dirt floors. I go to play and enjoy a couple days of pool. If you don't like it stay home and keep your negative comments to yourself.

Just for the record I had a great time and cant wait for March to get here.

booth location

My booth will not be in the lock down area ever again. Especially after Allen threaten to have me physically removed by security while I had customers standing right there waiting for there cues to be serviced.
