ChicagoRJ, are you trying to get a date with Emily? LOL

Just bustin your chops, keep postin' :p

So you have or had 1 that could....now if there was a guy that played her speed and come to your pool room how many MEN could play him even and win? I am gonna go ahead and answer that with at least 7 on the low side. I think that is the difference between the women and men pros. Their skill curve is not like mens. I know that sounds bad but its true. If women didnt have their own tour how many would make to the money in tournys? So by those standards she is a pro. By mens standards she is not.

Agreed. Good points sir.

Nope... happily married for 23 years :) Just some of the same "crap" I hear at the poolrooms. If a woman player is rated as a "master" player, the nits all go crazy, and say she doesn't shoot that good, I see her miss, she can't beat so and so... blah, blah, blah.

The same thing I tell them, is she is a womans master, and yes, the level of play is NOT the same as the men's. But she is a master player based on "her" competition. Remember, there is NOT near the number of amatuer woman players as men players... and thus why I suspect the APA can rate a woman as a "2" but not a man.

I think the idea is to get more woman to the tables, and by having lower handicaps, captains feel they get a slight advantage when they play them again men. Good strategy for the APA, and makes captains actively recruit woman players.

And yes, there are woman and even many men who can play pro speed but do NOT want to be a pro cause they can't afford the pay cut, they don't want to travel, and they want a retirement fund for later years.. whatever the reasons....

I suspect there are a lot of my friends that would ROCK the womans pro softball league and would be the in HOF within 3 seasons...... but that is apples and oranges...you can't take away from the woman who stepped up to the plate in any sport and competes.

Heck, I know many a good players that don't even play tourneys (cause they dont think they can win) ... let alone travel half way around the world to do it. So, don't hate on Emily cause she has the stones to do it :)

I dont think it is fair to compare her normal PROs, due to the fact that we automatically think of men pros. She is listed as a pro on the womens tour......does she play as good as the top 20....um no, but she is playing on the tour. Does she need improvement? Sure we all do. Is she great? Not yet. Now if she come to your pool room, how many WOMEN do you have at your pool room that can beat her? That is how I think we should look at it. Would I play her even? All day long. Do I care how she dresses? No. She has her style just like the other women have their own style. The only thing I will say about it is if you dress that way dont get offended if someone looks at you a certain way or makes comments. We are human and I will look!

A pernicious straw-man. The legitimate comparisons in this (and other) threads is to her competition among women, not men.

Compared to her female competition at the Amway Cup, she was never in the ball park of being a threat to win. It's not sexist to point out that she is not a world class female player.

She misses a lot, gets out of line A LOT, simple true statements. To state that she doesn't play that good is not sexist. If you think she plays good, maybe your definition of good is much lower than ours

BY the way I am not trying to knock her. I hope she plays everyday and in five years is a robot who doesn't miss. But, that's tomorrow.

It looks to me like she is right in the middle of getting lessons from someone and she is making sure she is doing everything she has been taught correctly shot to shot, very robotic. Give her some time to get her game together, I think she will be a good female pro.

Don't recall Emily or anyone else saying they believe her to be a 'world class' player? And its not about a threat to win, but willing to step up to the plate.

Not too different than me playing 1P at Derby City. Some folks just worry about being embarrased, or god forbid someone says they do not belong.

She's a very good player, trying to get better, and stepping up to the plate whenever possible, and marketing herself to make a little coin along the way. Not so sure that is a bad plan... just saying,.

Back when we had a pool hall the answer would have been one. We only had one serious female player and she could probably give Emily the 7. I haven't watched her play in the last couple years but I'd still back her against Emily. I don't think she has the luxury of flying all over the world to get the occasional win over the random below top fifty player like Emily does or I suppose she'd be a "pro" too. I'm not bashing, just saying that at our hall we did in fact have a woman who could play very well. I wish them both the best in their pool careers.

If you're comfortable doing so, please PM me the name of this female player... just out of curiosity. I have one in mind particularly, and a couple others marginally. Thanks.

PM sent Scott.

Vagabond, I responded. She can get action in the Chicago area for sure. Yes, I would play her if she came this way. I'm not woofing, I'm just saying we're not all bluffing on here. Honesty isn't bashing. If I was on camera the crowd would string me up too I'm sure. I run hot and cold like most other players who aren't playing A level pool or better. For the record, most guys would probably play her for cheaper sets just to see her in action. Maybe you can make enough there to pay off the ones you lose. You may still make some money if you take her on the road. Road trip!

A Pernicious straw man! That's funny. I have been called many things but this is a first. Do you consider Chris Bartram a pro?

There appears to be a misunderstanding. I only asked posters with screen names of ," Mia", and "Jester". "Mia" responded but did not take the offer. " Jester" did not respond. I don`t recall challenging you for an After hours match.

I was referring to that line of argument (women vs. men pros) being misused in the context of this thread (is E.D. a pro/world class pro), not calling you a scarecrow.

I'm not that familiar with Bartram's game, but I would venture a guess and say he's a "regional pro" or perhaps a very, very strong shortstop.

Just watched some of this video, also saw some of the previous one.

Emily, FWIW, thought you played decent, certainly have some game and a good base to build on, and also looked good doing it. Liked the confidence you exuded, keep it up!!
Scott

Emily I think you play great. Keep up the hard work that you are putting in and you will soon reap the rewards!
