I looked on the website and still couldn't find what exactly the rules of the game are and the team component. Can anyone describe what exactly Bonus Ball is?

Here's the gist of it as I understand it. Games to 30 points. Each player gets 3 pockets in which to shoot balls (2 corners and the opposite side). Purple ball worth 1 point, Orange worth 2, Black or Bonus ball worth 3. Once you shoot the purple you must then play the orange and then the black. There are a few more intricate rules, but thats the basic gameplay.

There are a couple versions of BB, amature and pro. Its a ok game actually, lots of interesting situation present themselves which is why I like it, however as for ALL the rules, i'm the wrong guy for that "?"

StraightpoolIU definition is actually quite close. The game is a point scoring game rather than ball elimination game you start on the purple ball which is worth one point after successfully making it you then qualify to shoot at the orange which is worth two points, once doing this you then receive one shot at the black "bonus ball" which is worth three points. All the while you only have your 3 pockets to shoot at (2 corners and the opposite side) first to score 30 points wins. Their are a few specialty shots you can play during the game to score points or move balls out of your opponents pocket area etc.... but the basis is really quite simple.

The WPBL uses a 24 second shot clock and a 15 minute game clock that incorporate the time factor of all other major pro sports. If the game is not finished in regulation time it will go into a shoot out where each team will have only one inning to run as many points as they can.

The WPBL format is also quite interesting as each match is played as a sort of mini mosconi cup style, their are 8 games per match and are played in the following order:

1. Team (all 3 players alternate shots scotch style)
2. Doubles (scotch)
3. Doubles (scotch)
4. Doubles (scotch)
5. Singles
6. Singles
7. Singles
8. Team (same as first match)

The scoring system for a match is 2 pts for a win in regulation time, 1 pt for a win or tie in a shoot out and 3 pts for winning 30-0 in regulation.

Hope this helps.

Dave

What is great about the format of the matches is that each player plays in a total of 5 games per match but only one of those games is a singles match. The team aspect comes into play in every game as all players are sitting at the team bench beside the table for the entire match and coaching is not only allowed but encouraged. To make it better for the fans each player is wirelessly mic'ed so that all interaction is mixed into the broadcast.
