Clear coat...Take 2!

I think my buddy has it down! This is the cue I'm converting for my boy. Added natural phenolic joint, ring and butt. I'm going to put a juma ferrule and UltraSkin skin tip on it, take the taper down a hair and then off to Alex!

As for the clear coating process, the wood is cleared, wet sanded, cleared again and this is the result. I'm probably gonna lightly wet sand it with 2000, polish and then wax. The entire process at the body shop is about 40 minutes of total time. The DuPont clear is the higher end clear with a hardener that allows the clear to dry/cure in only a few hours.

If he is force drying(140-160f depending on activator for 15-30mins) them I would be wary...

I'm not sure, but I'll ask. I may not have been clear stating the time. He doesn't do start to finish in 40 minutes. The 40 minutes is total time.

You coat then wet sand after a few minutes then re-spray ?
What grit ?
That it fast.
I re-coat 24-hours after , keeping the cue in a heated box overnight ( 80 degrees ).

Joey, he does it the same way he does his cars. There is considerable time in between the processes. I do know the clear/hardener that he uses cures really fast in the paint room he uses.

After that, it's too hard for the new finish to bite sufficiently.

100-120 degrees is plenty, it just takes a little longer.
Maybe 2-3, 20 min. sessions rather than a 10 min. blast.
Cook it 20 min. & let it cool. Still soft? do it again.

Everyone likes to talk about the cost savings of UV.
Gentlemen, I shoot maybe 300 shafts a year.
My yearly cost for finish is under $100.
I can shoot a shaft at 11am & deliver it by 3pm.

looks great to me , I have 3 guns one of them is my baby its Anest Iwata ,I only paint cars for fun now , my question do u think its better to use a touch up gun or full size , keep the pics coming :thumbup:

Looks awesome Tank !!!! What did you do to keep the signature from running when you sprayed it ?? I remember everyone talking about that awhile back but I don't remember what everyone was doing to keep the signature from running or smearing when it got wet.

Didn't do anything that I know of, it's just a Sharpie.
