I think my buddy has it down! This is the cue I'm converting for my boy. Added natural phenolic joint, ring and butt. I'm going to put a juma ferrule and UltraSkin skin tip on it, take the taper down a hair and then off to Alex!
As for the clear coating process, the wood is cleared, wet sanded, cleared again and this is the result. I'm probably gonna lightly wet sand it with 2000, polish and then wax. The entire process at the body shop is about 40 minutes of total time. The DuPont clear is the higher end clear with a hardener that allows the clear to dry/cure in only a few hours.
