Get a Free JB Case - Design the New Shoulder Strap

How about..

Instead of having 3 different handles on the case, have one long strap that can be attached/detached at different points to afford the same uses? Like having clips at different points so that it would create handles in different spots depending on where you clip it.

I like the idea of the backpack style. To avoid any problems, how about a dual strap that has a sliding cover over it? Unhook the top of the cover to allow it to slide all the way down to reveal the separated straps.

Personally, I'm as happy as a clam with my cheap-o flip-open style case. Even the duct tape adds some character. :D

No!:p:D

When you want to change the way you hold it, you have to reattach the strap to a different place. LAME!

I attached the duct tape on one end to change the way the cue came out of my case. I like to think it personalized the cue-carrying experience.

For the most part out cases are carried from the car into the pool room and from car into the home. Have you ever had your case on your back for hours at a time? Through an airport, or lugging one around the SBE? What people on this thread are suggesting sounds good so far. I like the idea of the back pack style that can be a double or single strap. I've tried a backpack style but got annoyed when the case was hitting me in the ass when I walked. My thought is this. Look to bike messenger bags. Wide nylon straps with padding at contact points. When worn over the shoulder it would be diagonal on the back and wouldn't hit you in the ass or the head. Add a strap that goes around you ribs to keep the case from moving around. Make your rib strap removable so that when only going from house to car to pool room and just carrying the case off the shoulder the small strap won't get in the way or look gawdy. Take a look at bike messenger bags to see what I'm talking about. If this design doesn't win, could I still get this on a JB custom case?

You can have any strap you want on a custom case if we are able to make it.

I say keep the current pad,but make the strap retractable/lockable,like a tape measure.

This way,the strap doesn't get in the way when you set the case down,or hangs loose so people can trip over it,etc. Tommy D.

I like this idea Tommy

personally i like the over one shoulder angle style straps like on this rifle bag. you can choose which side you want it on and the over one shoulder angled really helps with it falling off of your shoulder. The strap is padded with rubber on the back to keep it from slipping. if you attach the pad/strap it will be one less thing for the bag to lose/move/ and dangle everywhere.

My ideas

I enjoy these contests thanks for the opportunity; anyways I took the chance to design a shoulder strap as an amateur. My design is composed of two straps running closely in a V formation attached at either side of the case just below the zipper for the opening this allows the case to rest flat against the back and not twist around when on the shoulder strap (which is a personal complaint of my current guiseppe case) . The first picture shows how ideally the strap would work on the case with the attachments for the two straps on either side.

This strap can also work with the current attachment placement on the case you depicted in the initially posting it is just not ideal to my mind. The Other end cumulates into a single ring attachment at the base of the case.
Another benefit though of this strap design is that each strap is individually padded and of course adjustable in length. The two straps are wrapped in a cover that adds extra padding and brings them together to make shoulder strap itself. If the cover is left off the shoulder strap is converted into a backpack style. The second picture shows the cover on its own contains a hidden pocket and snaps on using a three brads allowing for easy yet secure attachment though these are easily exchanged for buckles or even the magnets. This simple cover when not used for the shoulder strap can be hung else on the case or even attached to the players belt or anywhere else if desired allowing for mobility.

If you have any questions about some part let me know, hope it helps.

Our shoulder straps are ok. Comfy and cushy and non-slip. But not as nice as I like. There are dozens of ways to do shoulder straps and I want to use a better one than what we are doing now. I have plenty of versions on my wall but none that I am really super happy with.

I want to know from you what your favorites are. Show me pictures, tell me why, and I will try to make and test all of them that I can.

When we pick the one we like best I will send the person who suggested it a free 4x8 like the one above, you can pick the color, with the new strap and all I want in return is your feedback on how it works.

If more than one person suggests the same solution then I will draw for the winner.

That's it, thanks.

Will the winner of this contest get their case before or after your current commitments?

It depends on what's happening in the shop. The nylon case side of it is different than the leather side. So it's entirely possible that the winner of the nylon case could get their case before someone who has a leather case on order.

You travel a lot so tell me what you think about shoulder straps and what you have found to be the best solution. Maybe you can have two cases coming instead of the one you have in the pipeline now.

Hmmmmm If I don't want the case in the picture do I get to use the retail price off of something a little more to my champagne tastes?? LOL

Seriously tho I have a design idea that would work great in place of the strap on my Time II case... I was thinking about it the other day because I still haven't unsnapped the shoulder strap and have just been using the carry handle.. I have a friend who does all sorts of sewing and was gonna talk to her about making it up but I'll send you a drawing instead...

Working on shirt designs tomorrow night and the next few days after so I should be able to do a quick sketchup...

Of course. We are always flexible with the needs of our customers.

I use shoulder purses all the time, and I am very picky about what kind of strap the purse has. It must be a certain length, so it falls correctly, but the material of the street is the most important. If the material of the strap is wrong, the straps fall down. It's so annoying.

The two best materials I have found is the strap on this purse made out of textured cloth or braided leather. The purse I am using now is a Brighton Beach shoulder bag. I have the same purse in three different colors, I like the shoulder straps that much. They do not fall down off my shoulder, making it very versatile when I have to carry my purse.

Here's a picture of what the strap looks like with the braided leather:

John, i have some ideas for a strap.. i want to think them through just alittle bit longer.. how long will this contest run?

and this is only a shoulder strap for the Rugged series cases, correct?

because my idea would not really work well with the leather ones..

its kinda thought of to incorperate your current design of the case..

lemme know.. thanks.. chris

Going to run it through June so I can build most of the suggestions. I actually intend to probably offer several different ones to fit different needs.

John,
Please reply my Email from Friday.

Gotta give kudos to JAM, she's on the right track, I think. I, too, have a purse with a braided strap, and it is not only comfortable, but strong for the overall weight it has to carry. With a braided or woven strap, there is simply more surface area to 'grip' with, in a smaller package. They are also very comfortable, as they are more rounded, leaving no edges to 'cut' into the shoulder. For those desiring a backpack strap type option, making the 'strap' as actually two braided or woven straps, with a simple leather or fabric 'keeper', that could be slid up or down, to make it a singular strap or a backpack type strap.

My explanation is probably confusing as hell, but I got it right in my head! Lol!!

i would just make a straight strap with engraved with all 16 balls. have never seen one yet......mike

The dual strap the way they have it on golf bags. It'd be nice if you had a 3x5 or bigger you could use the one strap or if its nice out and you live close you could walk to the hall without being uncomfortable. Also nice if you wandering around an expo all day.

Actually I'm going to expand on this a bit. With adjustable shoulder pads you could get the case in a comfortable position no matter the height or body type. A nice small strap coul slide the two together if you wanted a one strap look or tighten it up and just use the handle.

Maybe forget the strap, and put two wheels on the bottom and a short extendible pull handle on top. That'd be a big differentiator and a reason for me to pay a premium for a case, especially one as large and heavy as a 4x8.

John King case

This is by far the most comfortable strap I've ever used. made by John King in Ontario.
The width of the strap and the way it is fastened to the case gives the strap a very stable, non-twisting carry. The back of the strap has a padded suede lining that prevents slipping.
