using ash wood for pool cue??

I have seen a few in the gallery in the past, and have started one myself awhile back. It has sat on the back burner for a bit :)
I think Blackpearlmaker did a jump/break cue awhile ago, a search should find it.

Regardless of looks, better than maple?
What is the beneift and what is the trade off.
There is always a trade off.

My understanding is that the Europeans used it for snooker cues because it was available, straight grained, and hard. It has a neutral color. Maple was not available.

I would probably play as well as maple... after all it's in about a million snooker cues. I have only seen a few US cues with it on the forum.

Sugar maple grows in North America. When makers have an actual choice of either maple or ash and the market is neutral, they almost always choose maple.

ash makes for a stiffer shaft ,and maple you guest it ,its a more flexible shaft ...unlike the laminated ....
