No Cues on Planes

I haven't seen it reported anywhere else yet, but the STLouis Post-Dispatch is reporting that we are dead in the water on pool cues on planes.

The TSA is abandoning the plan to allow small knives and sports equipment including cues on planes. The plan was scuttled due to pressure from labor unions, law enforcement agencies and skeptical lawmakers. I just read it in this mornings newspaper.

and it seems that the unions are really the ones who put the most pressure on.

as for the knives, maybe a good idea.

but the sports equipment; that getting squashed was to do with the airline workers not wanting the extra work handling more bags.

That doesn't make sense to me. The bill was for carryon items, which airline workers don't handle.

Don't fly much? The entire boarding process is one giant game of Tetris where every passenger is bringing on overstuffed bags because they refuse to check them. I don't blame them, of course, given that we're charged for checking bags.

Even before they started charging for checked bags, people brought oversized, overstuffed carry-on bags, and then just stuck them in the first available space, even though they were sitting in the back of the f***ing plane! Because they don't want to carry it all the way back there...:crying:

So in short, the airline workers absolutely have to deal with carryon bags, more so than anyone else cuz they have to find room for it all quickly, because god help them if we're 30 seconds late pushing back from the gate.

The airline industry is the most dysfunctional system I've ever witnessed and yet people still want to fly... I just don't get it. (For the record, I have to travel a lot for work, otherwise I'd be flying once every couple years.)

Thanks for the explanation! I was thinking of the checked bags.

I fly about three or four times a year, and guess I haven't really paid attention. This bill is funny because i just got back from AK and brought a three piece fishing rod, stuck it in the overhead without any problem. My rod case is almost the exact same size as my pool cue case.

Rest assured, as soon as a fishing pole is used as a weapon in an action movie, they'll impose a ban on it. :thumbup:

it was reported on last night's news that the extra bags coming on board caused more work for the airline workers so perhaps it is to do with how they oftentime have to assist in storing them in the overhead compartments..

or how on full flights they have to ask some of the people to check their carryon items because there is no room left thus creating one more step.

those would be my guesses.

Fortunately for me I can bring cues onboard aircrafts here in China and Singapore. I travel very often by plane and I bring my cues around with me and chuck it in the over head compartment. It's no problem at all.

That said I still hate flying cos of all the flight delays...I'd take the high speed train (300++km/h approx 180++mph) in china so as long as its within 5hr traveling time...always on time and so much more comfortable..

What you need is one of these to check. It's a hard case. I might be building them again starting next month.
