Best Set of Drills printed?

What do people think are the best set of Drills printed in book?

Everyone and their brother seems to have produced a set of drills to have players improve.

What do people think are the best set of drills in a single book or publication? For instance...an IPAT book, a Pro Skills Drills book, Joe Tucker's Guaranteed Improvement, other etc.

I have joes guaranteed improvement book. I went through each drill diligently and recorded my scores many times. I feel I learned a LOT from that process.

I don't have the other material so can't comment on them.

There's a lot of them out there. The best would probably be different for each person, depending on how it showcased their weaknesses or strengths. Lately I worked with Dr. Dave's Billiard University and the drills on there. I really liked them, and they got me to start working on some weaknesses of mine.

I have not seen many of the ones you have listed. Of the ones I have I would give Joe Tucker the nod. He has a great set of drills. He has incorporated score keeping to push you to get better by tracking. And also gives examples of what different speeds of players would be scoring on each drill.

IMHO Joe has some of the best training material and aids on the market.

Just want to add whatever you chose, you have to get to the table and DO IT. I know I personally bought a lot of pool books and read them all, but didnt take them to the table. That is where the learning happens.

Another thing, in my experience, its imperative to keep score on the drills. It really makes you focus. I've gambled at this game a ton, and I can tell you that getting down to the end of a drill that is threatening to beat your prior best score is more pressure than a 500 set.

In addition to the ones mentioned, Bob Byrne has a video called something like Power Pool Workout. It is on youtube right now as well (I assume without his permission).

Ha, that's a great example for "me". I bought it when it came out, watched it, then forgot all about it till now that you mentioned it.

Kim Davenport's Target Pool

If you can find one, it's the nutz...

I also liked Joe Tucker's Guaranteed Improvement. Target Pool has been out of print for many years, so the price reflects its value as a collector's item. If you can find someone who has it, its worthwhile to make a copy of the book. Otherwise, pass and pick up a deck of cards like these.

I humbly submit that the new Billiard University (BU) collection of 18 drills divided into 2 exams provide an excellent all-around pool workout. The best thing is that all of the drills are very well illustrated and free (as Exam PDF files). For more info, see the BU thread.

Now, if you want an exhaustive set of drills that thoroughly tests all aspects of pool in various ways, then you should check out the Video Encyclopedia of Pool Practice (VEPP) that Bob Jewett and I put out last year. If you like drills, you'll love these videos. FYI, lots of excerpts (free video clips) can be found on the VEPP website (if you click on the links for each Disc). Also, printed diagrams for many of the drills can be found on the VEPP Online Resources page and in my series of BD articles dealing with VEPP here (see June '12 through May '13): Dr. Dave's Billiards Digest instructional articles.

Enjoy,
Dave

I got a 20 shot practice drill routine from the 'Miz', that he gave to a friend of mine back in the early 70's. I got to meet him in the 90's and showed him the drills, and he remember the time and my friends name that he gave the drills to. I got to sit and talk to Steve for over an hour about each drill. He was really a great individual!

You cant go worng with Dr Dave!! His website full of resources, it has help my game a lot and he has excellent products with a lot of credibility.

I used Joe Tucke'rs and Pro Drill Skills book and these are excellent too!!!

I like Pro Drill Skills better than Joe's but they are both very good! Pro Drills has DVDs that go along with their books as well as Joe Tucker.

You can also find a lot on youtube!
