Not sure if this has been brought up before but... I have been wondering if these players would agree to play doubles in 9 ball: Earl and Efren vs. Alex and Shane. Would this match ever be possible to set up? That is a race that I would definitely be willing to pay good money to see, regardless of the age difference. Anyone care to drop an opinion?

I've generally always liked team play...baseball, basketball, volleyball...and pool.

It adds a little cooperation to the competition...

Plus, when you win, you get to celebrate with teammates!
 
I doubt Earl and Efren would play on the same team, I'd give that about a 10% chance. I'd like to see Earl and Hatch as a team or Earl and Dechaine. Cage match, knives allowed.

But there have been some strong doubles play, I think Steinway had some doubles matches on a 10 footer not long ago at all.

And there have been some ideas about TAR doing a doubles match but the costs would be a bit much to pay out 4 players.
 
Only thing I hate more than watching partners pool is playing it.

Earl and Bata get flat out robbed, on paper, btw.
 
I think you'd have to offer Efren an enormous sum of money to play on the same team as Earl...even then, I doubt he'd do it. I don't blame him (and I like Earl).

I like the doubles format as long as the players are mic'd so you can hear what they say to each other (as long as the commentators don't talk over the players conversation -- hint, hint).
 
just a little away from the big names, I really want to see lefty-righty doubles play together, especially on 10foot table, they must understand each other very well to get positioning right for the partner :D
 
i have heard that alex and shane are friends, but i am not sure how good of friends earl and efren are. i remember i had heard grady mathews commenting back in the 1997 US 9Ball Open when earl and efren were playing against each other in the finals that he did not think that they liked one another.

more recently though, usually when ive heard earl mention efren, he seems to always speak highly of him.BTW im not trying to spur another earl vs. efren debate, i just think it would be really great to see if these two could legends could pair up even if they are past their primes. im just not sure if the two could work together, maybe there would be a contradiction in attitude or style of play.
