Just looks like a nasty Krav Maga move to me.
When he grabs the gun between both of his palms, he has raised it above his head before he takes the guy down.
There is a spit second where the gun is still pointed at him. If the guy is holding onto the gun and his trigger finger is firmly planted, he might get a round off.
The element of surprise tho, I doubt that he had enuff time to think about squeezing the trigger.
