Permanent table rack with donuts

I've heard about people using donuts to set up a "magic rack" on their table. I've been trying but I'm having trouble setting them up just right to get a tight rack. Has anyone used a template, or have any other tips for setting it up?

I used my actual magic rack as a template after lasering it straight but it still took some time since the holes in the MR are triangular. Go ahead and peel them up and move them around until everything is tight. And break some. They seem to get the rack tighter as time goes on. Then any that have lost their sticky and start to come up you can replace individually and get exact placement. Also use the clear ones. Much more pleasing to the eye.

I thought about making a template with exact od dimensions of the rings and placement. You can get a roll of 1000 clear reinforcements for about 5 bucks. One template would handle an entire clan of tables for years.

I sometimes use my wooden rack and rack right on top of them and the racks stay put with little effort. HTH

If you have a new set of balls it is pretty simple... If the balls you have are worn and no longer the same size then all bets are off since the donuts would have to be adjusted for the variance.....

Very similar to the magic rack in that they only work if the balls are within 4 thousandths of an inch or .1mm for the Magic Rack.. I am unsure what the tolerance will be for the donuts.....

This is IMO one reason this system is better than the MR. You can make those minute adjustments to account for different balls. It's really quite easy but takes a little while.

Yeah but the issue is that you have to put the same ball in the same location if they are missmatched... No big issue I guess if it's for practice at home but it would be pattern racking at the extreme if there were lots of different sizes in the mix.....

It's legit. I've destroyed guys in my town that most thought were the favorite. I play shape on the one at my house.

So do you think I will get the one I just bought ten minutes ago from the link above in this thread?

Apparently they are neither ceasing nor desisting as of today.

Who has a table at home with mix and matched balls?

I'd venture a guess pretty much everyone.... I play mainly 9ball or 10ball so my centennials are not worn on the 11-15 at all... I notice it when I play 1pocket....

I have several other sets of balls that I have acquired from different places and all of them are in about the same shape....

Balls wear out faster than you think as far as passing 4 thousandths tolerance... Add a ball cleaner to the mix and you quicken the pace...

Oh snap. I never used one, don't have a table at home, and I don't think the pool hall would be too keen on me putting my own rack of donuts on their tables.
