Switching from Sniper tip to which Kamui?

Looking for some advice. I've been using a sniper tip for years. I really know no other to compare against. I've been pleased with sniper. I'll be getting a Kamui as a result of the generous promotion they are running with TWheel's "Decider" match with Earl vs Shane. I would not be switching otherwise. Good promotion Kamui to try and earn new customers!

Which Kamui tip would you recommend I get as I make this transition?

Thanks in advance.

Black Super Soft would be my thoughts coming from the sniper and have them leave it tall on the install.... Do not let the term super soft scare you...

I'd say (stole this from John Bertone) to start with a soft then go up/down from there. Black is more elastic, I prefer them myself.

Black Super Soft would be my thoughts coming from the sniper and have them leave it tall on the install.... Do not let the term super soft scare you...

Thanks Chris. I have read many posts @ Kamui, almost always positive. And that they are harder than their name indicates, as you stated.

I'm not into soft tips, but the only one I've ever used thatI like was a SNIPER.

I have used a KAMUI and it was OK, I just think the price is a bit high.

In the long run I use a TRIANGLE on one cue and a TALISMAN on the other. For my break shaft I use a WHITE DIAMOND.

My $0.02, YMMV.

Kamui Black Supersoft users are my hardest converts to using the Ki-Techs.. The allegiance I see to that tip is pretty good confirmation that it is the current and reigning champ in the tip world....

None of them plays like a Sniper. Some people think they play better than a Sniper, others think Sniper plays better, but they do not play the same. So it will change your game. I think the SS Kamui would be closer to your liking since you like the Sniper, but again it will not be the same. Sniper, Kamui and Moori all have their own unique hit and feel that no other tips have matched identically.

KK9 is getting a coupon and thus has the opportunity to try out one of the Kamui products... Kamui has graciously agreed to sponsor the upcoming Earl and Shane PPV....

I am wondering if they make the new clear as a black super soft... I might try the Clear if super soft is the meat to the clear pad being the potatoes anddddd they look cool.....

Not had a clear to test or try so I had to go with the old tried and tested...

Very accurate.. The Supersoft will have more bounce and the ball travel will be further than the sniper... Lots of variables in a tip...

Kinda of like in a cue...

Everything from the leather choice, tanning process, chemical treatments and psi they are pressed at changes things...

I know there were tons of small changes made in the last 2 years to the tips I make in an effort to get them to play the way "I" felt they needed to play...

This is the main reason I think that so many tips exist out in the market.. We are all looking to find the one that feels and plays like we expect.......

I've tried the kamui original ss and cut it off the next morning. I have a kamui tan medium and kamui black hard now. I really like the hard tip. Best choice so far

I'm not following you here. At all, lol Would you elaborate please? Is the Kamui blk SS the reigning champ or the Ki-Tech (whatever that is - never heard of Ki-Tech)

Re: the hit of a Sniper: I have found that a lot of people have a misconception about how soft they hit, because they have only played with Snipers that were at least partially blown out. The first Sniper I tried was good from start to finish (never de-laminated). I swear I heard angels singing when I first hit with it, and it was definitely a medium rather than soft hit. Out of the next 5 I had installed (all by renowned cue mechanics), only 1 was good - 2 were blown out right off of the lathe, 1 blew out a few days after install, and the other blew out after a couple of months. A blown out Sniper feels about like an elkmaster, except you feel like you have to live with it because you have $40 in it. OTOH, NOTHING hits like a good Sniper, but Kamui black soft (and super soft) hit great and are far more consistent/reliable.

BTW, I'm @ an A- player, play with a 40 year old maple shaft, lots of deflection and play further from center ball than most.

I'm here at the doctor's office looking for a Kamui prescription. :D Thanks all for the input, much appreciated!

Kamui Black Super Soft is the reigning champ most places I go...

The Ki-Techs are new tips I have been working on for a few years now, but I am not trying to sell you a ki-tech... You asked which Kamui to try coming off of a sniper...

I will be using my coupon for a clear black super soft... Just looked and the clear comes tan or black

I was wondering @ the clear... so many choices dammit! Not sure what the clear is all about. It is not on their website. Isn't the clear simply a thin clear layer attached to the ferrule, with a tip on top of it? Any difference in performance? What's it's purpose - to look cool?

The hook they are using is that the pad will keep the tip from wicking up glue thru the layers so the tips should be more consistent from install to install...

It may be more hype than fact but maybe they are on to something....

As long as the pad doesn't add much mass it definitely shouldn't cause deflection issues so it's worth a shot for me to try one for pretty much free since I am going to buy the PPV....

Oh and they look really cool =)

I hit a few balls with Hunter's cue in Tunica and he had one of the black clears on it... There were no angels singing or rainbows shooting out of my butt while I used it so I didin't really even think about the pad being attached to the tip....
