Was just watching Truman's great video of Dennis Orcullo playing
the ten ball ghost on the famous tight table at Hard Times Bellflower.
He had just blown his previous out by missing a pretty easy 5 ball and scratching to boot.
I guess that made him extra determined on the next rack because every time
his run should have ended he just refused to miss. He somehow got out on a rack
that looked like a an automatic win for the ghost. It was damned impressive.
This is rack #7, score tied 3-3.
He's been soft breaking with mixed success. All his balls end up in one half of the table,
but usually something won't pass into the bottom corners. In this case the 3 & 4.
Dennis draws off a routine 1 in the side to get a sharp angle on the 2,
I think he wanted to zigzag between the 8 & 9, to get the cue ball to A.
Instead he bumps the 9 and ends up at B.
From here most players would be done but he plays a great carom to put the 3 in the side.
He draws with low left, running into the 7 and sort of replacing it with the cue ball.
A second later the 4 ball smacks into the cue ball too.
I dunno if I'd call this a good roll, bad roll, or in between. He's not hooked on the 4 but it has no pocket.
But it is lined up decently straight for a combo. Even so, on these tight pockets (4 inches at the opening)
this shot is no joke.
He gets the cue ball to barely clear the 8, and ends up pretty straight on the 4.
Hits just above center with stun follow, I think he wanted to go between the 9 & 10 to position A.
But without much room to cheat the pocket he can't get there and instead bumps the 9.
He's fortunate to have a shot after running into the 9, but it's no treat.
But after all those other testers, no surprise when he puts this down.
For once position is routine and the rest is just mopping up.
