The fish was this big!

There's always a little bit of that going on any time something like this comes up. That's why I keep my exaggerating within reason!

At the same time, people keep seeing things like '6 racks of 9' and take it to mean that it's a regular thing. I've known much worse players than myself that have gotten pretty much the same high run of racks that I have. Heck, I had a near 3-rack 8b run in my first year. I could probably spot the old me the 5-out and the breaks, but I haven't gotten past 3 yet. I even looked up my first thread yesterday and it was a bit funny how it sounded.

I've played enough people that have higher runs than I do.. unless they're doing it against me, it doesn't mean a thing. The closest I've had to deal with that so far is somebody running like 5 out 7 on me and they were rated a regional GM. Damn pinoys. Like I tell my friends.. giving up a ball or two in 9 doesn't mean squat if they never get to it. :(

I can't remember how I found this thread.. I think it was something like a search for 'secret feet hat' or something along those lines.

9-ball, 8-ball, straight pool, whatever it is, what's your high run? I've got a high run of 7 racks in 9-ball, not sure about 8-ball, and maybe 40 balls in straight pool.

My high run in 8 ball is 15 balls.

Snooker: 128

English Billiards: 141

8 ball: 3

9 ball: 5 to win a race to 7 - Started playing seriously in March this year, and my break is rubbish. They'd just re-clothed the table and a soft draw break was laying everything out beautifully. Now the cloths have been run in I'm back to crossing my fingers :(

10 ball: never played.

Carom: Pfffffffffffffff..........

Straight: never played.

I used to play a lot of 9-ball ring games at the Airman's Club on Clark AB in the Philippines way back in 79-82. The NCO Club had a table or two but there was no action there so I preferred to go to the Airman's Club where there were more tables and more players.

One Saturday we had a 3- or 4-man 9-ball ring game going and I was shooting "lights out" and getting every roll on the table. I played these same guys a couple times every week and I always won money, even though we usually played for small amounts (50 cents or a dollar on the 5 and double that on the 9, with money balls being re-spotted if a lower ball was still on the table).

The tables were coin-operated 7-foot bar tables and I don't know the make.

Long story short: During our playing session I came up to break and "won" 13 racks in a row with NOBODY shooting other than ME. I was the only person who broke, shot, and won (that included skill shots as well as luck shots where I just blasted the hell out of the balls when I didn't have a shot). On the 14th rack, I made it to the 7 ball before I missed, and my luck held out and they each shot at and missed the 7 and it came back to my shot. I made the 7, 8, and 9 and then won 9 more racks with nobody shooting again (except for their one shot at the 7) and they quit for the day. That was 22 wins out of 23 racks with me being the only shooter except for the 14th game..

You can call it luck, a fluke, slop on a 7-foot table or whatever you want, but that is what occurred.

Having never played a game of straight pool in my life, I was able to run 69 playing the ghost after a few hours of attempts back when I was a teenager and worked at a pool hall. While I worked there, I don't recall ever seeing anybody playing a real game of 14-1 there.

I have had plenty of 60, 70, and 80 point runs in snooker back when I played that, but never was able to get 100 in one inning. When I played snooker mostly, I was able to spot plenty of people 50 points and usually win.

I have had plenty of 3, 4, and 5 packs of 9-ball on 7-, 8-, and 9-footers and several 6-packs.

Having quit several times (the longest and most recent stretch being over 10 years), I have found it extremely hard to regain much of what I once was able to do. I have been playing again for about a year, but only for 4 or so hours once a week and that isn't enough to maintain any sort of proficiency or consistency. However, I have managed a few 3-packs of 9-ball and quite a few break and runs during my sessions.

When I quit the last time my eyes were near perfect, but by the time I started playing again I needed glasses and I have yet to be able to shoot using them so I use contacts. They are nowhere as clear as my glasses, but much easier for seeing to play pool because there is no frame you have to contend with. Now if I can just regain some sort of stroke back, I may play halfway decent again.

Aloha to all and thanks for the thread.

Hi i´m new member here azbforums but i have played almost 20 years pool and other billiard games.

my high runs:

14.1- 154 in game(straight pool is my favourite game)
(but my best day was when i did keep score on my practice session and after 6 hour practice i got high run only 78 but average was almost 40. i continued after miss always like in game)

9-ball- 7 racks 2€ per rack winner stays on table 4 players ;) 4 racks left handed on moneygame 10€ per rack

snooker 12ft 130... only 1 time i made over 100 :D plenty of 80+. 98 made with pool cue.

3-cushion 6
finnish billiard game called "Kaisa" run of 69. 1 game is for 60 points. uber tight pockets on that game. you might heard how hard game is from Mika..

8-ball is little different depends how u count it. i was finland champs 8-ball tournament and felt good. my first game i run out 1st then dry break and my opponent clears table and run 5 racks and i lose.
i go then loser side and opponent misses 8-ball at first rack. i clear and run out rest of racks to race to 6. and next game i run 4 first racks. so my record is 10 or 6.

i did quit pool few years and started practice again.. ah still love pool more than life. gotta get back to tournaments.

we practically always play 9ft tables here

I'm not a good player, of any game, and the fact that I only get out a few times a year certainly doesn't help, but coming from a mostly snooker background, I thought straight pool would be relatively easy to take on. Wrong. I enjoy it, but am not running any big numbers. My high run in snooker is 77 (again, nothing impressive), and I struggle to get past 30 in 14.1. I've never kept track of racks in pool games, but straight pool is really intriguing, so I will keep at it.

I haven't played in years and was always better in my own mind than I was for real. I played with great potential though. I remember practicing a lot, but not really productive sessions, just banging the balls around, running racks - and every time I'd get up over 60 or so and the magic 100 would enter my brain I'd freeze up. I might be in a cloud, just floating along, running balls without thinking, and then someone might yell out, "You're on 77", and sure enough, I knew my run was about to come to an end. The beauty of it was I could always blame the person who told me instead of blaming myself, not that there's anything to be blamed for, it's just a game. But I never got really good because I didn't have the temperment for it, not enough patience. I will say this though: I could be far behind in straight pool and would always feel I had at least some chance to make a comeback, and sometimes I would. But in 9 ball, I get behind 2 or 3 games and I feel like I have to make them up all at once. I can't think patiently like a carpenter, building things slowly. Anyway, I'd get behind just a few games in 9 ball and I'd feel lost - but in straight pool I seemed to maintain some level of confidence no matter how far behind I got. Thanks for your response.

Damn, this thing is old.
My highest run is eight. I play One Pocket. :)

Hah hah. From some of the numbers I see posted here, there are either way more good players than I thought, or way more people fibbing than I thought. But to make my point I am going to assume all the posts were genuine and take it from there. What I seem to take away from analyzing this discussion (What's the most hours you ever spent analyzing a single topic?), is that people play better at games they play more often. I can see from the numbers that 3 cushion billiards is rarely played. People who can run 5 racks of 9 ball should be able to run more than 4 shots in 3 cushion. Same with straight pool. The runs are inordinately low compared to the 9 ball marks posted. This does not prove those games are tougher, only that they are probably played less, thus offering less opportunity to improve and understand those games. I don't care, whatever is popular is popular. But at first I was amazed to see all the magnificent runs posted for 9 ball compared to those same people's runs in other games. That is mainly what I've taken away from this thread, except that it's an old one and I didn't know it at first - that some games are obviously less popular and played less, offering less opportunity for those who like the games to match up against worthy opponents, better yet, worthy opponents who don't mind be worthy teachers.
