Offering an older BEM merry widow up for sale. There are no marking on the cue. Weight is 19.6oz (3.9/15.7) and length is 58 3/8" (shaft/butt measure 29 5/16" and 29 1/16" respectively). Pin is 3/8x10 with a micarta joint, delrin buttcap and brown canvas phenolic rings. Ferrule measures 13.15mm and has a Lepro hard tip on it, not the mushroomed tip present in a couple pictures.
Cue plays solid with no buzzes or anything else. Rolls dead straight together and apart. There is some wear on the finish, specifically on the buttcap. I have plenty of pictures of this cue, so you should be able to tell its overall condition from them. I would be happy to take additional photos at request. In any case, it has been more than test hit with... And now for the history that I know of:
I picked up this cue a couple years back and posted pics of it here trying to ID it's maker. After seeing the thread Bill Stroud stated that he believed that he had made the cue, and that the buttcap had been replaced.
We exchanged couple private messages and he went on to explain that this was a special order cue with a Micarta joint and ferrule, and that it is a early cue made when he was in Aspen. He also stated that, while the buttplate has been changed that the buttplate screw is original. He informed me that he no longer worked on cues, and recommended I take the cue to someone that could replace the buttplate to original. I have not found such a person as of yet.
I do not have a letter of authenticity verifying this is as a Josswest, not am I trying to represent it as anything other than a sweet vintage player!
PM me with questions, if you have reasonable offers or would like more pictures. Thanks! -Josh
