Grizzly 14 inch band saw

finally

mine is setting about 75 miles away, going to pick it up next monday. did you keep the 3/8 blade or did you upgrade to a wider blade? i see the machine will hold up to a 3/4 inch blade and i am thinking of getting one. any one have any experence using the wider blades, i hear they cut straighter. i wouldnt ask but they are $70 bucks more. also anyone have any idea as to what teeth i should get on the blade for cutting 2 inch hardwoods?

I switched up to the half inch blade. I never used the 3/8 blade at all. I can cut .060 slab off a 2X4 on edge. I bought the band saw blade at Highland hardware in Atlanta for less than $20 . I love this saw.

The general-purpose blade cuts just fine. It does leave a little cut mark it's not a smooth a cut as other blades. I have had a wood slicer blade before and it didn't excellent job very smooth cuts. It does dull up faster than a standard blade the blade I have now has about 6 teeth per. inch . The wood slicer had three teeth per inch.

I always use a 3/4" blade on mine. But I saw the Springfield guys at the showroom peeling veneers off of short half logs with a little bitty blade.

I remember seeing a blade that someone on here was using that had varying teeth patterns. They said it was awesome. I think it was the wood slicer blades from highland.

The wood slicer makes a cue that you hardly have to sand smooth. I am too lazy to change blades out to cut other things so I dulled it fast. I stick with the gen purpose blade so I can cut phenolic and wood and sometimes aluminum.

Chuck,
Call these guys on the phone and they will walk you thru the options you have for your saw, and the kind of material you want to cut. Here's the link... http://www.suffolkmachinery.com/

It's not that bad... it took me all day.... build the stand and then get 2 big guys to put the main saw on it. Bolt it down and then put on the rest of the parts and adjust it up..........

The manual is in the bottom of the big box under the table...... you can down load one from grizzly until you get there.

LOL

too much to build

whenever i buy a piece of equipment that has this many pieces to put together, i think i am working for the company that sells it. !!!!!!!

then you have to adjust the wheels, then adjust the blade tension, then adjust the fence, then adjust the guides, then if it doesnt track as it should, you off set the fence, i think i might be better off with a handsaw

i forgot the photos

Do all the settings and adjustments before you put the table on.................... it gets in the way.........

BTW this is much better than a hand saw............ mine tracks perfect......

kinda proud

i set the saw on the base by MYSELF, took about a day in bed afterwards. read the instruction manual, then reread the instruction manual. i have never had very good luck with bandsaws, but i am very happy with the tracking. first think i made were push sticks, then i ripped a 2 by 2 by 30 down to 1.4 by 1.4.
if anyone is looking for a medium weight 14 inch bandsaw grizzley might not be a bad choice...

Wow... your back must hurt.... Thats a lot of cast iron. I didn't think it was that hard to adjust. It was a little tedious though. But once it is set you are good to go.

The only thing it needs is a light. I have a clip light that I set up on mine.
