Last night was one of those Special type of lessons.
It all started out with Steve Doyle, Frank cooper and Don Gibb meeting at Franks little slice of heaven in his garage.
No ordinary garage at all though. As you go in the front door there is this monument of a pool table. It looks like an old brunswick but it is not. It's a Gandy..
I didn't even know that gandy was around back then. The table I think is from around the 40's or 50's sometime. not sure. But it's one of those that was made to look like it had drawers on it. Then they would put a top on it to look like an ordinary table.
And boy did this table play sweet. it's like you can just feel all the past greats that have hit a ball on there. It almost feels sacred. Sometimes I even felt like the voices of past were trying to tell me something. Very surreal.
I felt like it was an honor to even play on this legend. And it is in tip top shape.
It turned out that Steve couldn't make it Sunday and will do the lesson this week so it was down to Frank and Don.
This is fine because it's difficult to work with three at once with Perfect Aim because i like to work on so many other things at the same time. And you never know what you will find that will really help that player.
Stroke, stance, eye patterns, body movements, you just never know.
First I worked with Don and what a nice guy. Here is a guy that is working his butt off to get better and is stuck in this vacuum because of this eye thing. I knew from the start that this might be a challenge because Don thought he was right eye dominant when in all actuality he was not.
He convinced me that he was right eye dominant at the start but as we went on and the shots wern't lining up and going in, I kept trying to figure if it was the left eye dominant.
Then don said the magic words. it feels like I'm shooting this with my left eye. He was cutting the ball to the right.
This told me immediately that don was left eye dominant.
We started right from scratch and within a few minutes Don was seeing the shot correctly and he said it even looked like it was going to go. To understand the magnitude of what just happened you would have had to been there to see it with your own eyes.
Frank was over on a table about 10 feet away with a big smile. He said I ain't never seen him fire the balls in like that. This was after only a few minutes of finding the right dominant eye.
Dons results seemed like nothing short of a miracle to himself and to Frank. Now Don could see why he was having trouble making the balls. Why he was having trouble with his shape.
If the dominant eye is not in the most dominant position it's like aiming the rifle under the right eye, closing the right eye and shooting with the left eye.
Now we could go on with the cuts to the right and the cuts to the left and work on the whole Perfect aim process.
Don is a 5 in the league. I will guarantee, especially if I was here for a month or 2 and worked with him that he would be nothing short of a 7. It happens all the time over and over wherever I go.
Perfect Aim is pretty much a guaranteed raise of one skill level almost immediately.
It's just a given.
As a teacher, to make such a difference in someones pool game that is trying as hard as they can to get better, is so rewarding.
This is why i do what i do. This is why i travel and teach.
Don said it all in a nutshell. He told me you are creating a legacy.
I need to correct him on that because i think most legacys are dead. Then they become legacies.
I'm still here but I guess he did say creating.
I need to get the camera figured out so i can show the dramatic results that are happening over and over and over out here on the road.
Next we went on to Frank. He's a 7 and plays pretty sporty already, in fact he helps Don with his game here and there.
Got to go do another lesson but I will share franks results as soon as I can get back to the computer.
One man a van and the road.............and lovin it...in Columbus,Ohio.
What state is high in the middle and round at both ends?
Let's see if anyone knows the answer. I'll give you a hint. I've been there before.
