Earl and the Mosconi

Am I mistaken, or hasn't Matchbook ;) already stated that Johnny, Earl, Corey and Rodney are on the team? Thereby leaving just the captain and 5th player TBD?

Hatch would be a good 5th IMO. If the captain could glue these guys together for ALL 4 days, I wouldn't want to be on their opposing team. That's a bad ass set of dudes. Daz and Chris and company could go have some spiked Yorkshire pudding afterwards at the Mirage. ;)

Hatch ahead of SVB???

corey too! man, is this gonna be a show

Great news for the European fan if Earl is back.

Weakens the USA team by playing and his antics usually have his team members fihting with each other. His childish actions also are great comedy to watch.

if anyone can play under the mosconi heat its the pearl, regardless of whether people like his attitude/antics. maybe archer is needed too though, earl and a bunch of youngsters (relatively speaking) is perhaps not the best combination

but i still think europe will win

Dang, what was I smoking when I posted that?

Does anyone know who has been officially selected?

With my involved it will help the chance of negative drama quite a bit. Through the many years I've developed a unique type of relationship with them and we all respect each other. Sometimes drama is simply because of lack of management and a clear "Mission Statement". Last year was ok, but could have been better if I knew then what I know now about how the team synergy is created - it's not necessarily "common sense".

I'm talking business as well as competition, believe me, these guys want to win more than they want to argue or create "drama". The Captain is not in charge of player selection, however, I would not make my selection based on fear of drama.....quite the contrary my dear Watson. ;) The nature of this competition may actually require it.

CJ, what is your involvement in this years Cup? Sorry if I missed it earlier. Are you top baby sitter, errr... captain again? ;)

This is all so mysterious this year!

I went to www.matchroomsport.com and couldn't find any selections. Couldn't find anything on AZ's homepage. Googled Mosconi Cup and came up dry.

I know Earl has claimed he's on, CJ is posting captain pics - just looking for "official" word.

if matchroom is choosing teams, they can really put a strong european team in there and could add mika and ralph this year.

Is matchroom also picking the captains?

i suppose darren and melling (mvp last yr) will be in, other than that it's a rather open field the way i see it. feijen and nvdb are not obvious picks to me

his is all "Top Secret"

This is all "Top Secret" - Earl Strickland is playing because they've released information that SKY SPORTS is making a lead in to the tournament using Earl.

the Mosconi Cup roster will not be announced until after .............

Has matchroom or anyone been in contact with you CJ?

I'm in contact with many people.....the Mosconi Cup roster will not be announced until after the US OPEN from my experience.

Team USA Roster:

Earl - drama, period
Johnny
Rodney - drama from PR
Shane
Dennis - drama from NYC

CJ - coach of calm & drama

Wang Can and Jorge Rodriguez split in the finals. Busty came in third.

Thanks for letting me know.

Was a nice surprise to see such great players turn out. Wish I could have stayed longer but we had to get back to our hotel in manhattan via the subway. You are a solid player yourself I might add.

I wonder why earl said he doesn't know if he is on the team yet. Maybe they told him stay quiet until the official announcement.

By the way, that kid wang can can really play. I was amazed at his level of play at hard times in July. How can a 19 yr old kid be that good?

You should have come said hello. I would have liked to have met you. Thanks.

Earl is weird like that. I'm guessing you're right and they told him to keep it low key.

Wang can play his ass off! You have to remember, they are taught and sponsored by government programs in China. It's not just his skills on the table, it's his respect off the table that makes him that much better.

I hope you had a great time. The next two weeks are going to be sick at Steinway Billiards!

This would be an unbeatable team, especially if we didn't have to use the "cut break".

One of the "hidden" things about the MC - the USA Players never use the "cue break" in competition during the year so it's a noticeable disadvantage.

This topic comes up every year, the cut break that the Euro's use, and the US players don't.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but is there any reason that "our guys" can't be working on the break well before the actual Cup matches? Our guys can (and do) play as well as "their" guys, in general terms, in most tourneys or events. It doesn't make sense to me that they cannot learn that style of breaking.

Perhaps there is more to it, and I'm underestimating that break and the process of learning it, at the highest levels. It's just that this topic comes up every year, and I simply don't know why.

Yes, I wish I could be there, but I had to get back to Los Angeles.

Steinway seems like a great pool room. They keep up the tables, things seem well maintained, and it isn't as snooty as Amsterdam.

Best wishes in the 14.1 if you playing in it. Is the Ginky Memorial at Steinway this year? It was at Amsterdam last year, right?

Specifically with regard to Earl's break, I think he should start using a break cue again. I think it is difficult to get the proper momentum going with that giant cue he uses. That's just my observation, perhaps I'm off base, but I think his break has gotten worse since he started using that giant cue.

- Sky's been making a documentary about Earl as part of the 20 years celebrations. Nothing more. It was never announced that Earl was 100% on the team, but that he was part of the history of the cup. Different thing.

- Teams are not 100% picked yet. It's the 20 years anniversary so it will be a mix of legendary players as well as current best performers with a high profile. Official announcements will be on Matchroom's website and Fbook pages, as well as all the press including AZB of course.

- USA Mosconi Cup Team on facebook is not official, CJ is running it and whatever is posted here does not come officially from Matchroom.

Would be cool to see LAndon Shuffet play Wang Can. I guess Shuffett is focusing on college for now though, which is a smart decision
