Hi All,

Just to "throw it out there again", I would still like to re-acquire the Palmer Model J that I ordered new in the early 1970`s with the name "Will Prout" in the foil under the plastic window in the buttsleeve.

If you currently own this cue and would like to make a sale WELL ABOVE market prices, please send me a PM.

BTW................. there is also a Hiolle cue purchased new from the A.E. Schmidt Co. in about 1963 that has my name in an ivory block in the buttsleeve. The name was misspelled as Will Provt on the cue. (Yes, I was REALLY pissed when it was delivered)! Wow, have I been playing 50 years???

It scares me what I would pay to have this cue again! :p:rolleyes: ;)

There's the essence of collecting, right there. Now that Schmidt cue is like one of those super rare mis-strike or restriked coins. I would love love love to get one of these cues and hold you up for $100s!

Boy you gotta figure if anyone here at AZ had either cue with your name on it (or my Viking with mine for that matter) they would have piped up by now, but if there is one adage true in collecting, its, "if you don't ask, you can't get".

Best of luck in all endeavors to you and yours, and thanks for my intro to AZ, I really love this place.

Kevin,

Good to hear from you! I piped up for exactly the reason you mentioned. Although I would have thought that if someone had either of these cues they would have chimed in by now, you just cannot be sure. I want the potential owner to know they are in line for a home run if it is offered up!!!

BTW, introducing you to AZ has been not just my treat enjoying your posts (and lifetime players), but a whole bunch of other posters feel the same way.

And speak up again! What exactly is the model of the Viking you are seekiing that has your name on it? And what does it look like?

Stay in touch,

Will

That's nice, thanks.

My Viking was a rosewood X90 with *shudder* pink pearlized rings everywhere (don't ask) and an implex joint.

My dad (who is no longer with us) schlepped out in the middle of some ridiculous Buffalo snow storm to go the the Buffalo central post office (they weren't delivering to their sub stations - too much snow) to have that cue for me in time for Christmas in the mid-1970s, and yeah, I'd like to have it back.

That was my 2nd lifetime player. My first was an Adam plain jane with a tri-color wrap.

OK, I figure this thread is a safe hijack as a bump in a thread like this is always a good thing.

Being in the business of selling collectibles, I am, of course, somewhat interested in what makes people collect. I sell collectibles, I don't really collect anything, so most of my thoughts about the reasons for collecting were focused on someone else, what makes them tick.

I sold Will a box cue, and Will told me the story of his first box cue and what got him going in that direction, what drove him to collect.

I hadn't played pool for 30 years when I sold Will the box cue I did on eBay. The sale, which was a fabulous experience really for everybody involved, and the ruckus that sale caused here on AZ, and the people I met surrounding that ruckus, made me decide to try to play pool again.

I had sold the Tad I bought from Tad in 1977 on eBay so I needed a cue. I went to eBay to buy a cue and for some reason decided I wanted a cue with a Lucite name window so I bought some Palmers. Acquiring those cues (and through the box cue sale) I met Tate (another great experience), and I bought and sold about 25 Palmers. I reflected on why it was Palmers for me and the best I could figure out was the best player in the Michigan Union in the early 70s had one. Anyway, here I am searching for and acquiring Palmers and not really knowing why, when one day I decided to see if I could find my Viking in the Blue Book and there it was, my Viking X90 which had a Lucite name window in the butt. No wonder no Palmer satisfied me, it was my X90 I was searching for and I didn't even know it.

I was collecting.

Thanks

Kevin

I have 3 model J's in storage and I'm pretty sure 2 of them are Szamboti forearms, but they don't say Will Prout in the foil, DARN IT!!! Can someone change the foil to match???

Man I could have swore I seen that cue on eBay less than a year ago the last name sticks out so I am pretty sure that's where it was sold last

I watch all the eBay Palmers, have for ten years, not there.
Thanks anyway,

Will Prout
