Got my free Kamui tip, but

Ordered an on-line pay-per-view that I would have ordered anyway, As a bonus they offered a FREE Kamui tip. Instead of a tip I received a voucher. Had to go online and find an authorized Kamui tio installer, who would install my FREE kamui tip for the normal installation charge.

The Problem:

They want me to drive 240 miles roundtrip to the nearest authorized Kamui tip installer.

I'm not really out anything. I guess Ill install another Sniper (I really love those tips) and try to find someway to survive without my FREE Kamui tip.

I'm old and I see so much of this crap that I'm barely upset enough to post this.

Just got my voucher and had not yet investigated. I have been doing my own tips for ever and am unlikely to give my cue to anyone other than a few cue makers I know personally. So guess I will be passing on the "free Kamui tip".

Lame

What a joke. Regardless whether one was purchasing the ppv or not, to offer incentive without disclosing it as a voucher is wrong.
And you have to use an authorized installer??? Please, seriously?!
Good luck locating one of them local. Didn't even realize there was such a thing. So much for warranting any of the dozens of tips I get put on.:grin-square:

Standard operating procedure

They had that in mind when they made the offer. It was bait for the people on the fence.
Then whoever makes getting the "free" tip more trouble than it's worth. I'd like to see the ratio of people that bought that ppv because they were getting the kamui, and the people that bailed on the offer because of the hassle. Who was it that did that offer. That was the Earl and Shane on the bar box.

hey - don't yáll know it's the stuff you get for FREE that counts?

Marketing 101

we got our money's worth, in watching the matches all weekend.
we got our voucher, and it was posted that it would be a voucher.

we haven't followed up yet, but i'm real sure, that in this day & age of internet/high-tech/AZB contacts....that it won't be a problem.

bring your voucher to Mosconi & i'll buy it from you.

If it was John Bertone behind the voucher offer then I can fully understand.
Per our couple of conversations, he has never struck me as a real smart businessman.

Just sour grapes on my part on how I was treated and talked to by John. No biggy in the long run.

So if he was behind the tip offer, makes himself look good for a short bit, and then
pisses off or alienates any potential new customers.

If it wasn't John himself, then it was an equally dumb move on someone elses part.

Offer a free tip, send it out and let people put it on as they normally would. That way if they like it, they will be inclined to buy again. This way you have more people that won't try it, now or later.

If a person isn't already a Kamui user, it will leave a bad taste in their mouth and a Kamui will be the last tip they think of when it comes time for a new install.

Smooth move ExLax.

I deal with Tom Hay, Ultra Skin tips. I get enuff bonus tips and use them for that purpose. I install them for free for players that want to try them out. Who is going to resist a free tip right. They come back for more and their friends do as well.
It ensures future business for both Tom and myself.

Sorry but it was advertised as a voucher. Secondly, Kamui users could tell you that you they utilize "authorized" cue repair people to install the tips. I'll send you an offer to buy your voucher if you like, let me know.

Hi Vic, Just a quick explanation. The Kamui tip promotion was obviously used to give an added bonus andincentive for people who purchased the "Decider" Shane an Earl match. It was ALWAYS promoted as a "Tip Voucher" So on that I don't believe anyone was misled.

However I am a little disturbed that the closest place you can get one is so far away. I really wasn't aware that this was how the Voucher worked. So I am sorry for the trouble and I will ask and find out if there is anything that can be done about this.

I really thought that when I was told about the opportunity to give the 1st 100 people a Kamui Tip Voucher that it was a nice bonus and that we were doing something right and good for people. I actually still think that and so I am sorry if anyone has been put out. Hopefully I can get some answers and there is a way to solve this.

I just went to kamuitips.com/contact to inquire as to where my nearest installer is. I await reply.

Hopefully I won't have to jump a plane to get to him. Mark, I hope Kamui will agree to mailing people a tip that aren't in proximity of an authorized installer. Otherwise, 50 of us hardened AZers will surely band together and youtube a Kamui voucher burning rebellion. Just kiddin!

Mark, I bought the stream at the last minute figuring it was too late for the offer and that was fine., so I have no right to complain. I do know what a voucher is, however, and it doesn't necessarily force one to have an item installed at an additional cost. That might be more rightly called a "bait and switch".

A voucher is:

"a small printed piece of paper that entitles the holder to a discount or that may be exchanged for goods or services"

So, I read the forum offer as "the first 100 purchasers of the PPV will receive a small printed piece of paper (or a downloadable PDF) that can be submitted to an authorized Kamui reseller for a free Kamui tip of choice"... or something along those lines.

In my case I don't think there is a professional cue repairman anywhere within easy driving distance from me. My local room advertises a "pro shop", but there is no such animal on the premises, and when I asked they said there was "a guy who can put a tip on by hand if you need one". Well, I finally met the guy and told him I was interested in breaking into the repair biz. He gave me his blessing and said he only did it as a favor and has never even used a lathe. I think he only carries Triangles and Elkmasters anyway. Lol

So, if this can't get resolved I'll just start a thread and offer mine up for free to the first responder. No way am I paying anybody to do anything with a free item. I am curious about Kamui tips, but I am also very satisfied with the UltraSkins put out by Tom Hay, and now he has come out with an ultrasoft tip, so I'm going to try one of them anyway. Just would like to have given the Kamui a chance to compare it with. But either way, no hard feelings on my part, you are doing good things for pool and I really appreciate it.

What ever the offer was it had no bearing on my purchase. When I got the voucher I was surprised (had forgotten about the offer). If they indeed will not give me a tip to install myself. I will never try one and will have a prejudice against anything that says Kamuii.

It could have been an opportunity to build good will and promote the product.

Not Smart

As I said, I would have purchased the PPV anyway, so, I am not out anything.

As I said I'm old and I didn't have a photographic memory when I was young, but here goes.

I suspect that somewhere the offer was presented as a voucher (I'm almost certain that announcers on another broadcast did not include this information when pushing the deal.) I don't recall anything about having to travel to get the tip or anything about paying to have it installed. This was my first experience with Kamui.

I went to their website, read their spiel, and actually got a little excited about trying a Kamui tip. My only real disappointment is not trying one out (I don't get enough spin on the ball).

I am 64 and certainly will continue to love the game of pool.

"Authorized" tip installer, sigh. You think you've heard it all then something like this comes along. Do they have to take a 1 year class to glue a piece of leather to a bit of plastic and then trim off the excess?

I really like the performance of kamui tips, but I think they are way overpriced like their chalk. Won't be long before you can no longer buy them without having them installed by an authorized tip installer, I bet. Good thing there are plenty of tips on the market with good performance and no bs.

Some of the other industry "professionals" on here should take lessons from you on how to respond to complaints. Good job.

Tap x 3.

Mark is a man of integrity and a foward thinker. Give him a chance to try and iron this out before we put a noose on Kamui.

I always assume that any "free" incentive to purchase something will turn out to be worthless. Making you jump through hoops to redeem an offer is an old trick; 95-99% of those "offers" are never used...by design.

Sad to see that Kamui is using the same tactics. I guess they don't understand that the company is at the point in its product life cycle that reputation is everything.

Thank you also, not sure I will get any info today though due to the holiday butI have already tried to get answers but no answer so far.

i understand the OP is @ MS - enough said on lack of local dealers/installers.

but we are talking about:
$30 Kamui tip - FREE
$10 install - OUT OF POCKET

seriously?

Although I myself am an authorized Kamui "tip installer"..... I fully have to agree with the frustration of having to be an "authorized tip installer". I mean it's just a darn leather tip, it ain't rocket science...... or even science for that matter.

ALL I had to do to become an authorized tip installer is send in a pic of myself standing next to my lathe. It is MY lathe but how do they know that ??? And just because I own a lathe, does not justify me KNOWING how to install tips. I thought the authorization process was kinda lame myself, but it ain't my company and I just did as I was instructed.

You actually probably have more "authorized" installers close to you than you realize.
