As the Stones Turn

JAM

I am the storm

This has been the *best* week of pool for me. I have truly enjoyed the World Cup, seeing all the great players give it their all at York Hall, but how about that Turning Stone semifinals going on later today. OMG!

Interestingly, I have noticed the forum traffic has died down this weekend. Everybody is watching pool on the streams, I'm thinking. And it's great!

I watched a neck-and-neck match yesterday on the free Accu-Stats stream where Earl Strickland squeaked by the ever-so-calm Canadian champion, Jason Klatt. It could have gone either way. The match was very exciting.

During that round elsewhere in the room, Brandon Shuff plowed through his opponent in record speed. His match was the first one done, and I knew he would be the next one to face Earl. Well, I couldn't stay to watch it live, but what a surprise to see Brandon defeated Earl in the winner's bracket yesterday.

And how about that Oscar Dominguez? What a tournament he's having. He knocked Thosrten Hohmann out of the B side of the charts. He also beat Rodney Morris on the A side of the chart and defeated Jason Klatt on the B side of the chart. He's one of the final eight, where play begins today at 12 noon against the charismatic Dennis Hatch.

I was recently made aware of Jeremy Sossei when I saw a photograph of him at a past Derby City Classic. I couldn't help but notice how much he looked like Alan on "Two and a Half Men." Well, Jeremy is in the winner's side along with Brandon Shuff. Each are going up against players I'm not familiar with, D. Normandin vs. Brandon and J. Dupuis vs. Jeremy Sossei.

And the Joss Tour darling Karen Corr is still in this race to the finish line. Trust me, the match of the tournament will be this one with Karen Corr vs. Earl Strickland on the B side of the chart. I know Earl is sweating this one. He never did like playing "the girl." :D

So there you have it. Be there today at noon and watch it unfold. Who's going to win the 2013 Joss Tour Season Finale at Turning Stone?

Winner's bracket, race to 9:

Brandon Shuff vs. D. Normandin
Jeremy Sossei vs. J. Dupuis

B Side of the chart, race to 9:

Oscar Dominguez v. Dennis Hatch
Karen Corr v. Earl Strickland.

Oh, man, I can't wait!

If you want to see some of the showcased matches that were on the TV table at Turning Stone for FREE from Accu-Stats, check it out by hitting the red LIVE button ---> HERE.

It doesn't get any better than this.

what a match between Thorsten and Jeremy last night, what a comeback for Jeremy. down 6-1 and comes back to win,. I enjoyed the heck out of that one. was most disappointed that earl refused to be on the tv table against MD....that would have been a good one! earl was on that table earlier and commented that it was "the craziest table" he ever played on!

And of course that means that Dennis can get a chance to redeem himself against Karen, if they both win their next matches...

Looks like it's gonna be quite a finish

I'm in the same boat. I have so many work-related things I need to do today, but I will not miss this one.

First, nothing would make me more proud and happy than to see Brandon Shuff win the whole shebang. I''ve watched him grow up as a pup and blossom into the player he is today. :smiling-heart:

Dennis Hatch plays well at Turning Stone. It's in his back yard, and he's so humble when you meet him in person. Everybody loves Dennis. He's the spirit of America in the Mosconi Cup. But that Oscar is also a fan favorite, coming here from the West Coast. He is definitely having a very, very good tournament. This one will be a fight to the finish and pool at its finest.

The match of the century will be Earl vs. Karen. I understand him not wanting to play on the TV table. The TV tables do play funny sometimes, and it is definitely not fair to the TV table players that they have to play on it. But to not film Earl vs. Karen would be a travesty.

Earl has this "thing" about having to shoot with the girls. He hates it. Many, many times, as I'm sure others have heard, Earl complains about women being allowed in what he deems as "men's events," like Joss Tour and others.

At the IPT King of the Hill in Orlando in December 2005, everybody was outside smoking cigarettes after the players meeting, and Earl's first draw was Gerda Hoffstatter. Within ear reach, Earl was expressing his thoughts about playing "the girl." I looked over on the sidelines and saw Allison and Gerda listening intently to Earl, and they had a scowl on their faces. Next day, Gerda barbecued Earl on a field of green, and Earl couldn't get out of the Orlando Conference Center fast enough. As he was racing down the multiple flights of escalaters, there was a full press corps following him with cameras and microphones, hoping to hear him speak. It was the funniest sight I've seen in pool. :grin-square:

At the 2004 Joss Tour Season Finale in Portland, Maine, Earl drew Karen Corr. Outside, again, he was expressing his disdain for having to play "the girl." Later inside, Keith was practicing alongside Earl's table before Earls' match with Karen. Keith could not contain himself and started ribbing Earl about his upcoming match. Like Gerda, Karen sat on the sidelines and just watched and listened, but you could see she was a wee bit annoyed by the banter. :embarrassed2:

Oh, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE put Earl vs. Karen on the TV table today.

curious why many of the top players aren't at turning stone

Some are still suffering the effects of BB's abrupt end, financially speaking. There are three so-called "pro players" that have left the tournamaent trial and gotten 9-to-5 jobs because of BB's demise.

The World Cup had Johnny and Shane in attendance.

Though this Joss Turning Stone is probably my favorite venue for pool, speaking as a player, one must come in the top seven or eight to break even or make a profit.

In the past, the Joss Tourning Stone was used as a points vehicle for Mosconi Cup players, but not so this year, which may be one reason why you don't see some players traveling to Verona, NY. America has no tour.

That said, I love this tournament, and this year, it's pretty damn exciting to me. I'm loving it!

no way earl is playing on the tv table today........

You are probably right. My second choice would be the Oscar Dominguez vs. Dennis Hatch match.

For me, this has been one of the most exciting Joss tournaments ever. I'm digging it.

Whatever is "wrong" with the tv table sure wasn't due to any extra lighting.
I had a hard time distingushing the darker colored balls. Not complaining,
matches were great.

is there any trick tp avoiding the brutal commercials on ustream. I'd rather pay than fade their insensitive timing. In the past accu stats did a full production ppv at turning stone. why npt this year? Rather harsh statement JAM that a couple poolplayers actually had to resort to a job. UGH! lol

Nothing harsh meant, truly. It is just a sign of the times that in 2013, it is near impossible to turn a profit or make a living playing pool competitively. Some players try to juggle a job and play pool, but they are unable to devote the time needed to hit balls every day to keep in top form. :)

I actually may be in the minority about pool-related commercials, but I like 'em. It gives me a chance to learn and see what's new and innovative. Plus, these pool commercials are a way that Accu-Stats gets paid for giving us *FREE* streams. ;)

I was just joking about the job thing. I've never seen a pool related commercial. only that dreaded Sheetz one & many Toyota spots.

Oh, I misundstood. Daniel, do you use Chrome? Download Adblock. I haven't seen a commercial since I've downloaded Adblock. No more 30-second waits on YouTube, news articles, et cetera. It's a time saver. Best software I've downloaded in years.

Best of all, it's FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ---> HERE :happydance::happydance::happydance:

100 minutes to the first match of the day in the semi-finals. Who, pray tell, will be on that TV table? Please, please, please let it be Earl and Karen. This is a must-see!
