American legs weak on foreign soil? Or simply not good enough?

You lot can't cue a ball. This will never sink in with you. NEVER.

The problem with American pool? America.

Wow, you nailed it, there has never been an american pool legend.

Ralph Greenleaf
Willie Masconi
Steve Mizerak
Earl Strickland
Shane Van Boeing
Mike Segal
Ray Martin
Jim Rempe
Buddy Hall
Lou Butera
Keith McCready
Luther Lasiter
Eddie Taylor

And those are just a few off the top of my head. I really wish at least one of those guys knew how to "pot" a ball.

Another pointless post by ron swanson, go figure.

Your boy DAZ agrees with me. He went to Pinoy land to get better...

Europeans need to get a clue. They play good enough, but none want action in a longer set against TOP US guys, Johny, Shane, Earl, Hatch, Corey, etc. Not to mention there's not a Euro player alive with a big break like Shane has.

I get that Shane hasn't won a world title YET, but I'm pretty sure Johny and Earl have a few between them...[/QUOTE]

I agree! Philippines may well be the best place to learn - but there is a totally different culture to try and live in for a year if not longer - this is why I suggest Europe.

And yes 'Our boy' may agree with you, but that is after he learnt and plied his trade on the Euro tour to then take the next step up to Philippines.

YES Shane has the MONSTER BREAK - but pro pool seems to want to do everything it can to prevent this from being an advantage; so again he loses out - not his fault!

YES America has won its fair share of world titles and dare say may still even rank the highest in total worldwide - However, that would be a history lesson - today, the USA are lacking in national structure, education / training and facilities... If the USA can't see that, then visit Europe or Asia and the USA will improve.

Further still - we are discussing the USA and founders of the modern Pocket Billiards, so it needs to maintain its status - many would question if that is the case today!

STRONG players - YES
WORLD DOMINANCE - NO

RE; Gambling
This has very little place in Europe anywhere - why? It's a cultural thing; that's all.
To say that Europeans run scared because they don't play x player for x amount just shows the difference of culture and upbringing of junior players.

In Europe the players are groomed to beat the player in front of them; PERIOD - that's all that matters. This then turns into a matter of pride - winning for winnings sake - not money. So when this has been drilled into a youth from the age of 9 - why would they all of a sudden play anyone for $$$$

To reverse the logic - why doesn't a top USA player go up against another top EURO player for pride and pride alone. Reputation is a big thing. I believe this to be another reason why USA will lose out to Europe in this years Mosconi Cup - Two teams playing and competing for two very different reasons...

It's not pointless - it is just difficult to point out to most USA players that there is something out there more in cue sports that just Pool.

Count up the number of cue sport MULTI-millionaires in history and very few (if any) will be Pool players.

Why is this - because pool is the hardest cue sport that the rest of the world admires... Mmmmmm. Re-shuffle

Silly to feed the trolls I know but by my count three of the absolute best European players of the last decade all live in the US and have for a while. Wonder why they would do that if sucks so bad compared to where they come from?

Because that is where the easy preys are to be found :D

Yea, it's a cultural thing. A culture of stepping up. If you want to know how well I play, you're going to pay me for it. Even the Euro boys know there's not much money in pool. If they can't figure out how to get "paid" to play, then that's there problem.

If you think for one second the USA players don't take pride in what they do, you are SORELY mistaken. Why don't you ask MD, Shuff, Shane, or any of the other road warriors if they are proud of what they've done? They drive and fly for endless hours every year, to try to out run the nuts, and snap off tournaments. Why don't you ask Earl, Johny, Hatch, Morris, if they are proud of what they've done with pool in the last couple decades? Then ask if they want to play for a little change?

You talk about Europe being better because they are "groomed" to beat the person in front of them. Because they have pride. They play for the sake of being the best, not for money. WTF do you think they do in Asia??? Toughest action in the WORLD! There's a world beater on every corner, waiting for a game. They bet high as the sky against established pros, and they'll play in a chicken coupe if the game is right. Out side of a few select guys, Europe has nothing special, just like the USA. The big difference is that if you walk in talking shit, we'll call you on it, and put our money where our mouth is.

All the best,

Justin

I said you cannot cue a ball, not you cannot pot one. Whilst all great players, many of those you list have appalling technique, and play well in spite of it, not because of it.

Someone mentioned the england football team earlier, and he gets no argument from me there are systemic problems with our technique, and has been for decades. The trouble is, your average British football fan/player/punter doesn't see the problem, so it persists.

The problem you have is cultural, just as ours is with football. If you don't change your culture you're finished as a pool playing nation. And saying this only gives me a modicum of pleasure - it is in all of our best interests to have a strong pool scene in the US.

It really is up to you. If you are happy with the state of pool in America, good luck to you - you're going to need it.

What exactly do you mean when you say the state of pool in america. Are you speaking of the skill of American players or the popularity of the sport in general?

50 countries VS. the USA. What's this little tourney called?? The Mosconi cup. What would Europe have name it? Benny Hill something I am sure.

Whilst it's the 'many versus the few' in terms of countries, American pool is a minority sport at best in Europe. The UK has probably 3-400 players who like the game enough to own their own cue. Put it this way, there are probably more regular posters on AZB than there are serious players in the entire UK. I doubt other Euro countries are awash with pool halls, either.

ps only Americans like Benny Hill.

How about Monty Python?

You're the same dumb ass, that tells me after I beat you that my pattern play was horrible. THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG IF YOU WIN. Only losers are concerned with how the "proper" way to win is...

Good to have you back Thaiger. I missed your ridiculous comments. Tell me next about how much better snooker is...

So why are you debating, if you know Europe can't hang?

You're saying, "well you beat us but only because of blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blah... bullshit."

At the end of the day, you just want to argue. Doesn't matter what for, or about. You're a LOSER. If you want to find out how big of one, just open up your wallet. I'm sure we can find you a game.

Are you advocating playing horrible pattern play?

There, you have your answer.
