American legs weak on foreign soil? Or simply not good enough?

What is this obsession with "Bet Your Own" amongst American pool fans?

The theory is the cool customer with nerves of steel will hold up under the monumental pressure of
potentially going broke if he loses, while the choking dog types will fold like a cheap lawn chair.
And since betting is so much more prevalent in the USA (*citation needed) they should
outperform Europe in a betting situation.

So, basically, we can win if we change the game to give USA an advantage.
Boy, that'd be something for america to be proud of.

I've watched people bet amounts of money they're uncomfortable with and it makes
for piss-poor viewing. It's usually a dogfest on both sides. One guy plays 3 balls below
his practice speed and the other plays only 2 balls below. That's not good pool.

I think the Mosconi Cup in particular is already max pressure and the players are trying their hardest.
Changing it to some giant cash game won't result in different or better pool.

I never have and never will buy into the whole "players that gamble are better."

If Shane (a gambler) and Thorsten (non-gambler) played a race to 100 in 10-ball. I would have Shane as the favorite. Not because he gambles, but because I think he's the better player.
