The Other Barry

"Barry Extraordinary" is how he's described. Originally an accountant by trade, this Barry had purchased a chain of billiard clubs "as a property investment" in the early 1970s but fell in love with the game. Soon thereafter, he was promoting events and managing players.

A wildly optimistic visionary and a firm believer in cultivating brands, this Barry has never been interested in one-hit wonders, preferring instead to find an underexposed product and carefully build a brand around it.

Of course, this is the incredible Barry Hearn, owner of Matchroom Sport. In his 20 years of promoting pool, Hearn has staged 65 international events and has paid out nearly $9 million in prize money. A Matchroom main event has never carried an entry fee.

Mike Panozzo of Billiards Digest, hits it out of the park again with this great "From the Publisher" article about our new BCA Hall of Famer, who will be formally inducted later this year.

As the smoke from the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship dissipates, why not enjoy a cool pool read for a change. Check it out: Barry Extraordinary.

Hearn is involved in multiple sporting activities. Check out this recent BBC interview taken 4 days ago about a British football team: Barry Hearn: Leyton Orient chairman sets play-off target

With all the volcano rumblings in the current pool world, it's nice see a ray of sunshine like Barry Hearn. :)

Ooh-la-la. This Barry is kind of cute.

Thanks JAM for the info and the links about a man who's done so much for the pool world. I didn't know much about him until I saw this thread.

James

I know Barry/Matchroom/Luke has their hands in @ a dozen sports. I don't know how they do it. Maybe they don't have forums in England? ;)

M Cup countdown... 42 days!

I learned a great deal about him as well from the article. What a diversified man!

Interesting that he has an accounting background, which more than likely has led to his success in whatever venture he decides to tackle. ;)

LOL! :D They actually do have a pool forum in England that I used to post on. I haven't done so in a long while, but it's kind of fun to read the British railbird chatter. A few pros also post there.

When time allows, check it out ---> Pro9.co.uk

Barry Behrman is the new Barry Hearn.

Doing it on a local scale but attracting players from a global scale also.

We need the US Open to succeed to bring any validity and credibility of the sport in the USA. It's our biggest tournament.

I think the difference between the two Barrys may be greater than you think. :embarrassed2:

Barry Behrman has one main pool enterprise: U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship. He also owns one pool room: Q-Masters.

Barry Hearn, however, has his hands dipped in snooker, bowing, darts, boxing, fishing, pool, British football, et cetera. Read more about him ---> Barry Hearn

This is a little interesting Barry Hearn factoid: After nearly going bankrupt in the early 1990s, and suffering a heart attack in 2002, he returned to become a multi-millionaire. Hearn enjoys relaxing by fishing in a carp lake, located in his back garden, listening to country and western music while sitting in his favourite rocking chair.

Yah, because it never really *clears*...

But anyway, thanks for the links. I am a great admirer of Barry Hearn's pool events and their video presentation.

A man of integrity and vision! Also has that great dry British sense of humor.

Thanks for the links, very interesting things I learned about him; he definitely deserves being inducted in the Hall of Fame!

A little birdie sent me this incredibly cool link about Barry Hearn. Now that he's been inducted in the BCA's Hall of Fame, I thought I'd pull up this thread.

I hope you all enjoy watching this cool video while waiting for POST TIME of Day Two of the Mosconi Cup.

Enjoy this ---> HERE

I love this guy! :smiling-heart: I'm so glad he's in the BCA's Hall of Fame. Well deserved!

yea lets stay isolated, never travel abroad and play, and rely on certain individuals like kevin trudeau and barry behrman for the sport to succeed and the prize money to flow...that's the winning recipe right there.
