Non-Ivory Hoppe ring options?

I live in Asia and travel around Asia some and I don't any ivory.

I'm having an old style cue made bumberless with white green linen wrap..etc

My question is how would jade workout? Pale jade is what I'm thinking because it's still light colored and would play off of the green speck?
I don't know if jade would hold up, or how working with is. Just my idea. Thanks for your advice.

Jade will be very hard to work with.
 
I agree with Chris - I had some jade chopsticks and they were brittle as can be. I know there are varying qualities of jade, but the prettier stuff in a piece large enough for a hoppe ring is going to make your cue butt-heavy - in terms of dollars, I mean!:D

Use an old resin cue ball. It whitens up nicely and it is very temperature and humidity stable.

I've thought of that, but I want to use something more natural, without breaking laws. You could use holly, but kinda plain jane.

The butt plate is Water Buffalo Horn, bumperless with a shiny weight bolt.

Maybe deer antler with some simple nickle lambros type accents?

I don't even know who's making my cue, we haven't got that far yet? I have cue broker friend in the US that's finding me an old Titleist for conversion Rambow style and the cue maker.

I don't care about what people say about the value of Titleist conversions today. I'm not selling it. I'm gonna pass it on to my kids. 100 years from now conversions will be worth big bucks. Invest in old wood.

Holly would be good choice as far as looks go. It is one of the few cream/ivory colored materials that have grain lines like Ivory has. Moose or Elk would be okay, but not as white as Ivory.
 
Elforyn is a nice white, clean looking hoppe ring. Ive used it when someone didnt want to go for the cost of ivory.
 
Not to hijack the thread, but have any of you tried camel bone? My wife bought a couple of letter openers yesterday made of it, and I had a hard time telling the difference.

That's what I would use as it looks like very much like Ivory.
