This is my Abe Rich Collection. The cue on the right is mint conditon unused Florida Cue he built before going out on his own as Star Cues. The first cue is one I bought from Abe myself. He made me come to Miami to pick it up. He said he would not ship it. So I took my wife to the Keys. It was like stepping back in time when I walked into Abe's shop. He had very minimal equipment and thousands of pieces of wood he had turned round by hand on a wood lathe. It was worth the trip.
The second cue in the picture was Mike Danner's personal playing cue. Mike was a road player and was most famous for inventing the Stretch System bridge and extension. The third cue was Jose Garcia's personal playing cue.

I got into the safe today and took pictures of a lot of my old cues. I am going to share them over the next few weeks.
 
it hurts to see these!

love these cues! my favorite cue(the rich) was stolen with three others. an abe rich, a great SR6 schon, a prather and a fury JB. abe rich was ebony forearm, black plastic butt sleeve with three rings and a great cuttyhunk wrap. it hit SO good. loved it. put a micarta ferrluled schon shaft and i didn't need anything better! straight as could be. sad to think of it.

Very nice collection. I only have 1. Although it does not have quite as nice of butt cap.

happy to say I found another rich cue like the stolen one (from ebay) and nabbed it! has two tone red/black wrap but butt and shaft are excellent. I do have cuttyhunk to replace wrap as well as(looks around quickly) Cortland 7 lea 27# white/BLUE- not interested in selling Cortland.

Thats a great collection of Rich Cues.

there is a user here on AZ that has over 100 Rich Cues, his screenname is BayGene. he is a great historian and has tons of info regarding the history of Rich Cues. he has even wrote a Wiki regarding Abe.

My 1st cue was a Rich. I think it cost around $35 in the mid 60's. I was bringing home around $42.50 a week.
Abe's history is pretty disturbing. Amazing that he survived ...and kept his sanity.
 
I just added another Abe Rich to my collection from his Nephew

Glad that I was able to get one of the NOS--Cocobolo King cues, before this I didnt have any of the WindowStyle Abe Rich Cues.

The Nephew sent me the cue and the original pearl collar on the shaft, shaft. It had never been hit but unfotunately the shaft had a 's' bow in it, so I contacted the Nephew and asked to see if he could either find another shaft that was straight with the proper colar, which I thought would be pretty low chances of this, since they only used that shaft colar setup on the 'King' cues, I think both 'Rosewood and Cocobolo Kings' used the same pearl-plastic colar'

Anyway, I figured he would end up sending me a good shaft with the taper and piloting that Abe and the Richs cues were known for and that I would extract the colar off the bent shaft and reinstall it on the new good shaft,

So, I waited about a week and a package showed up in the mail, I opened it up and -OOILLLA' PRESTO-Majico----A NOS KING Shaft with proper colar, good grains per inch and proper pilot and nice and straight,

THANKS to the Nephew of Abe Rich who has acquired most of Abe Richs Inventory and has flooded the market with his stuff for a while, but everyone should be happy to even be able to get their hands on these cues, JUST WAIT IN 10 YEARS FROM NOW, watch what these cues will start selling for and see how dificult it will be to acquire them.

About 20 years ago, I stopped in to meet Abe and to buy one of his cues. I guess I got there at the wrong time as Abe was cooking his lunch (Campbells Pork and Beans) on a one burner hot plate. He didn't say a word other than to tell me to come back after he finished his lunch. I never returned.....:thumbup:

Abe was indeed a character. When I called him about getting a cue, he told me he would not ship and to come in. I told him I was around 800 miles away, and he basically told me to take a vacation and come in in person. So I did. I took the wife to the Keys and stopped in to get a cue. He had two cues from his 70's inventory that he had recently finished and would only give a $20 discount on the cues. He kept turning in the blue book and showing me a Balabushka with the same basic butt sleeve design and asking why "George's cues brought thousands and his only brought several hundred since George was not even a wood turner?" Then he said, "I guess I will have to die before my cues bring that kind of money." I doubt Abe's cues will ever bring Balabushka money, but George also had to die before his cues brought that kind of money. Well I offered him $1500 for the two cues and he only wanted to come down to $780 per cue from $800, so I just took the nicer one.
 
Without a doubt, this is the nicest collection of Abe Rich cues I've ever seen. When I started buying cues in 1973, there was Palmer, McDermott, Sailor, Viking, and Rich. Very few others. I went with the Palmer Model D, which I still have, but the Rich cues have always intrigued me. They resemble a bit of Palmer and Paradise, but have their own look as well. Very nice collection.

Haven't been in the forums much lately so I missed this lovely stream. I particularly liked seeing José Garcia's cue. He was when he was playing one of the great practitioners of old style, pick the rack apart play.

I never seen one of his sneaky's this is as close as I've gotten to one.

It's a plain jane out of exotic woods that I picked up from a guy in Miami along with his Meucci player. He was using this cue as a break cue and supposedly Abe built it for him purpose specific.

The finish has darkened and crackled, it's going to go to proficient here in the next month or so.
