PBA Uses Blue Dye To Illustrate Oil On Its Lanes....

Is this a sign the public is losing interest? Are their player numbers diminishing and they are searching?

I read about this a couple of weeks ago. I think it's just like the TV ball sets for pool, or the hawk-eye for tennis, something to get more info to the viewer.

I don't think it has anything to do with a loss of interest, but rather it's to stay competitive. I believe the first time it's been used was during an ESPN taping so, there you go :)

I know of a sport that's not so much on ESPN anymore ;)

Hockey did a similar thing with the puck. Since it travels so fast and gets lost during play they tried something new. The puck had a blue tracer type flowing electric tail as it moved so one could follow. This eventually became obsolete. Similar to jet exhaust contrails as it passes overhead.

The hockey puck "trailer" is computer created to make it easier to follow the path of the puck.

The measle ball has dots so spectators can see the ball spin.

The dye on the bowling lanes reveals the oil pattern and allows the spectator to see how different bowlers adjust to the various oil patterns.

always wondered why those pool ball numbers are so small. There are color blind players so having big huge numbers helps :D

I don't know how the spectators are going to feel about the blue day.....but the players are going to have a field day with it.

It should show them how far and at what rate the oil is carrying-down the lanes....thus making equipment changes more crucial to their scores....which in theory, should improve scores by a little.
