The Great Experiment Begins

this is one of the better things about this site... I have no experience with or watching snooker but THAT was just flat nuts...

He split every pocket. Every one. No hangers, no almost-missed-it shots, just right down the throat!

And I thought I was improving lately...I feel like a beginner.:(

That was some sick shit. I've never seen anything like that before! Just went back and forth, shooting left and right handed, as naturally as we walk with our left and right feet.

It's been said that Ronnie would be a top 16 player in the World, left handed!

Finally got back to my big experiment today. The holidays kind of got in the way and just had too many things on my plate to play much pool the last two weeks.

I just played a little over 30 minutes lefty and fell right back into whatever groove I was in last time. Thank God you don't regress if you don't play for a week or so. I feel like I'm on the verge of having some semblance of a stroke, starting to find a consistent way to deliver the cue. Definitely still a beginner, but no long feeling totally inept. I'm almost up to ball banger speed.

I didn't miscue once and actually was able to aim on most shoots, instead of just guess where to hit it. Made a lot more long shots and continue to be surprised when they go in. I am getting confident on short shots if I take my time, aim and don't rush it.

I'm looking forward to more short sessions and want to see where I'm at after ten of them. Remember, my goal is to see what I've accomplished after thirty such sessions. I'll keep you posted.

I watch a lot of snooker matches and all the snooker pros are constantly talking about how great Ronnie O' Sullivan plays left-handed... And he does... When he switches hands you can't really tell because he looks so natural... It's spooky...

I have a match from the World Pool Masters where Ronnie got a notion to play an entire match left-handed, breaks and all against Vincent Faquet of France...

He was in a tough match, but he beat Faquet who was a pretty highly regarded European player at the time...

I haven't seen a lot of the players we're talking about play opposite handed but from what I have seen on tape Ronnie might be the best opposite handed player in the world... Maybe ever...

Here's a link to the O'Sullivan-Faquet match from 1997 (Commentary is in Chinese)...

And Ronnie plays better now left-handed than he did then...

More Ronny O'Sullivan

Had to laugh when I read this on wikipedia.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronnie_O'Sullivan
When he first displayed this left-handed ability in the 1996 World Championship against Alain Robidoux, the Canadian accused him of disrespect. O'Sullivan responded that he played better with his left hand than Robidoux could with his right. He was summoned to a disciplinary hearing in response to Robidoux's formal complaint, where he had to prove that he could play to a high level with his left hand. He played three frames of snooker against former world championship runner-up Rex Williams, winning all three. The charge of bringing the game into disrepute was subsequently dropped.

There are some theories that doing things opposite handed, actually grows new brain cells, and increases your eye-hand coordination, to include your dominant side. No lie.

This is completely true. Doing things with both hands works out both sides of the brain equally. If you right handed you will be left brain dominant and vise versa. So trying to do things with both hands daily will help you out a lot in many different aspects.
