Cue Of The Year?

I think cue-maker behavior. i.e., customer satisfaction, is definitely a consideration for eligibility.
What's wrong with insisting that the cue-maker making the cue was, and still is, an honest, ethical
individuals and that evidence to the contrary brings into question the eligibility of the cue-maker's wares.

I know this is called "Cue of the Year" and someone will probably chirp in that any cue-owner can
nominate their cue regardless of the cue-maker. Well, would you let someone enter a cue if that person
was suspended or even banned from the Forum for bad behavior.......they still might own a handsome
cue that conceivably might win.........or do you deny them entry.......this isn't intended to punish the owner
of a nice looking cue a chance to win......it's meant to not reward a scumbag cue-maker with any form of
recognition for their cue-making abilities.

Any cue that wins will not make the owner of the cue more popular but it sure can help the cue-maker acquire
new business........Zinzola & Pepper should never benefit in any way from winning Cue of the Year as implausible
as that sounds.......people will always recall the cue-maker rather than the cue's owner.....so this is really about
the Cue which means it's really about the cue-maker. So any dishonest cue-makers should not be allowed.

Heck, bring out the accusations and evidence........name everyone.....victims should step forth and post.....start
a new thread........why do we tolerate such horrible, bad behavior and dishonesty.....everyone really should stop
buying from these cue-makers so let's help identify these jerkoffs........every time I read another new thread
about a cue-maker problem and then others come forth and chime in about their problems....it just seems stupid.
All of these guys deserve to face a firing squad.......just a figure of speech but a novel idea nonetheless.

In the end cue of the year is about looking at and appreciating beautiful cues that were made in the last year. Cue makers don't treat every customer the same and there are plenty of facts , stories, and anecdotes to make a book longer than war and peace. I think any cue by any maker should be allowed to be nominated by its owner or with the permission of the owner. The voting will sort the rest out. JMO
If you wanna start another let's hang this or that cue maker thread go ahead and do it but don't screw up Jaime s thread with a bunch of B'S everyone already knows

That's exactly right, which is why I said "depending upon your definition". Some of us have a higher tolerance for certain things, and others are quick to start a post. I agree, if the cue was made this year its eligible. If you want to start a thread about that cuemaker winning, and he sucks as a person, put it elsewhere.

Not trying to screw up Jamie's contest......I believe this thread belongs to Mia if I'm correct.
Just expressing an opinion before the contest kicks off......and then the Zinzola reply....etc.

I acknowledged in my post about this was not my contest and had no say in what the rules or eligibility are.
Besides, I have zero skin in this game and so the contest can be run by Jamie, or anyone else for that matter,
any way they may see fit to conduct it. Sorry if anyone inferred anything else from my posts. I think it's great
Jamie does this and it's his creation to do anything with he wants.

And the question was about dishonest cue-makers like Tony Zinzola or Lee Pepper, not rude behavior by a
cue-maker towards his customers. If that doesn't really bother you, and you're indifferent to this issue so
those type individuals should be allowed to enter the Cue of the Year Contest because they made a cute
cue last year, then my standards are very different than yours and please don't infer this means better. It
means crooks don't deserve to be with honest cue-makers, albeit temperamental at times but always honest.

Glad we got your OK on that. :D

R U 4 reel??????????????????????
But my reading comprehension skills are apparently a little better.

In an effort to get this thread back on track here is my nomination that was finished this past February/March time frame. Some people have come up to me to complement it and get some better looks while one friend of mine has made it his personal mission, doomed to fail from the start, to have me sell it to him.

It is a Darren Hill and if you search through the archives you will see that this guy has some serious skills. He calls one of his cues Frankenstein and it is a frightening monster indeed. It has been my regular player for several months now and I can say that it hits every bit as good as my Scruggs, better now that I am used to it. It sounds like he is getting his shop back up and running after a recent divorce and I hope that he sticks with it for many years to come if this is what he is capable of.

Great observation about Darrin. He is a serious cue maker for sure!!!

"Official" thread is ---> here <---

1) Linky no worky

2) Stop trying to hijack my awesome cue of the year thread!!! This isn't about you and your noble intentions through an honorable contest where others have a voice and a vote. This is a thread where people can submit their entries to have me and me alone use my overly judgmental/overly opinionated/overly rude tone to judge them.

- B <----------- glad to see you're doing this again but hasn't seen a winner in THIS thread yet. :-)

Well?

Not to pee in anyone's Cheerios but if you been making cues for many years you should be good enough for a cue of the year entree. But sorry folks I'm a rookie and I'm very happy that I build very nice cues! But like most of these guys winning shows and building artwork I have just not been around that many blocks. I respect them a lot. But truth comes down to really cue of the year should be more than just that. I did custom car show for years and won a lot of best in shows. But I'm not a pro.
So here's my take on have it be like it should you don't toss a rookie in the ring with a pro. Maybe but?
Have a -Masters and Rookie cue of the year! I only say that because guess what there are a lot more rookie builders out there than pros! Prove me wrong on that one!

And you pros I'm happy you have your 200k + shops with CNC turn key operations. I use to use a 38k CNC engraver I loved to use it so I understand you could never build what you do by hand like that. Put a computer in front of one of these kids today they will destroy us older guys.

I would love to see the Master builders and the Rookie builders and watch out for the sleepers you would be shocked at some of the cues being built out there today but hey I ain't shit "Yet"!

And yet last year's COTY winner was Jake Hulsey... a relatively new, and at the time, lesser-known cuemaker. He beat out the likes of Manzino, Haley, Thomas Wayne, and a slew of other legends. So... I guess time in the game isn't really relevant. Having two separate categories for Rookies and Masters is pointless. We're not judging people based on how long they've been in the game. We're not judging PEOPLE at all. Just the cues.
