Can i make this motor work on this control?

With the pics below you can see what i am working with here (for the most part).

I wish i could give you more information on the first motor that is attached to the speed control but all i know of it is that it is 1/3hp. Sorry guys. Bassel could not tell me more than that, and there is nothing printed on the motor.

What i want to know is if i can make the "new" motor (2nd pic below) work with the speed control that is attached to the old one? The new motor has 4 wires, the one that is attached to the control only has 2 wires going to it.

My other concern would be the considerable size difference between the two motors (stats wise).

I predict you will burn that controller up with that high HP/amp of a motor.
 
i think it will smoke

i noticed a ph number on the motor, might be an idea to call the manufactor and ask them what controler you need to use with that motor?
 
That controller is most likely for a 1/2 hp motor. That motor... a proform treadmill motor, needs an MC60 controller from a tread mill......... you can find them on Ebay. Use the black and red wires for the controller. The other 2 wires are for a thermal switch wrapped in the motor windings.... don't connect them.

Also the MC60 controller uses a 5K ohm pot to control the speed. You most likely don't need 6500 RPM. Wire a 5K ohm resistor in series with the pot to cut the max speed to about 3000. Instructions on wiring the MC60 controller are on the internet.


How do I know this???? I use the very same motor..........

Kim, I was hoping you would chime in on this one. thanks for the information MC60 it will have to be lol. I do in fact have the control board that came out with the motor, but i do not have the speed control nob. Any ideas on what i may be able to do there?

I mounted mine on just a wooden board.... do not connect the AC ground to the control board.... get some spade terminals at Radio shack or Lowes to make connections to the control board.

Connect 120VAC to the 2 terminals labeled...AC1 and AC2.

Connect the red and black motor leads to the terminals labeled...motor A- and motor A+.

Go to radio shack and buy a 5000 ohm linear potentiometer and a 5000 ohm 1/4 watt resistor..... color code..... green - black - red.....

solder the resistor to one of the outer legs of the potentiometer..... connect the center leg of the potentiometer to the center connection labeled "white".... connect the outer legs of the potentiometer to the other 2 connections ..... leaving the resistor in series with the one leg of the potentiometer.......

fire it up and see how it runs.... if the speed control potentiometer doesn't act right..... swap the two outer legs of the speed control connections.............disconnect AC first....

Every time you turn it on.. you must take the speed control to zero and then turn it up. That is just the safety put into the controller for treadmill usage,,,, If anyone knows how to defeat this feature... please share it.................
