The Break in Cahokia

You guys are getting close to the edge now by calling each other names (stupid). I know you do not see the harm, consider it harmless woofing, but if it goes much further I will rip this thread down.

And the reason is that if I let you two denigrate one another then I have given permission for everyone else to do the same. There is already enough negative crap in the game for a person like myself who would like to see the game gain in respect and popularity to allow you guys to show the world that pool players are a bunch of negative clowns who get off on putting each other down. I just do not see this as the image we need to present to the world of the game.

Please be civil. It is not too much to ask of mature adults.

Best post on this thread.

lol, liar.

I told you here, and you read, not too long ago, that: I would not play you in Oklahoma City, St. Louis, Louisville, or Vegas. That I would see you in NJ on March 18th:

(sigh) This is the endless loop of insanity I was talking about. Bye for now, John -- see you at the DCC where I have no doubt you will rise to new levels of loon.

Lou Figueroa

I wish I were able to travel Lou...I would go to DCC, and just follow John around..I would side bet with him, on all your matches...He has you so underated, that I could probably get 50 to 1 odds, you wouldn't beat some 'B' player, who could probably give John 8/6 ! ;)

Of course, the hard part would be tolerating his "level's of lunacy"..I would just hope, after I have him broke and distraught, he would not pull out his 9mm and shoot me in the head !...And Lou, smart move not playing him, until there are witnesses and camera's around...I think we all know how 'unstable' John can be !

Yes, I would not want to do anything with him either, until the night in question at the Sandcastle. Obviously Lou was in there hitting a few balls and listening to good music and trying out his gift (ear buds) and having a good time, when this guy barges in talking crap. Barton was totally trying to fish for a buyout price. If Lou would have told jb he would just take like $1,500 or so just to call it all off, jb would have paid it off so quick. Glad Lou didn't go for that old gimmick. He's talked too much smack. Need to make him forfeit the whole $3,000. That won't hurt him too much anyway. Surely he is not foolish enough to actually blow off another 7K, is he?? Maybe is he very very wealthy and will show. Lou spent his life serving the country. Otherwise he could be rich. The United States. Remember that country??

Excellent observations Dud !..Barton's continued negative references to Lou's years of service to our country, are often insulting, and demeaning..And all this is coming from a guy who deserted his homeland for China, looking to capitalize on 'cheap labor', when most of their customers, are here in the good old US of A !

The fact that this will result in loss of jobs, for hard working American's, in a struggling economy, does not bother these people at all !...They are only interested in increasing their profit margin. !..This has been the M.O., for too many greedy businessmen, who could care less about keeping America strong in the world market !

Thankfully, Mr. Barton's business, is in a miniscule specialized industry, that does not have a major affect on anything of real importance...If it were, I am sure he would have been ostracized from this forum, regardless of how many (or how few) advertising dollars he was spending here...However, I must admit, sometimes that does not appear to be the case !

Funny that my condition was that Lou post the whole ten if he wants to play me before the 18th.

And he started the conversation.

And he started the conversation.

What conversation?

You started this thread and mentioned Lou's name in the first sentence. It reads that you started another thread to draw Lou in.

And you would actually put the waitress on the spot and ask her if she said your are weird?

What if she said, "yeah, I think you are weird, get the FK out".

I bet that Lou's first thought when he saw you come thru the door was, Oh FK, wheres Sam and Dean when you need them.

Only members who watch Super Natural will understand that one.

Normally, I doubt that the waitresses initial thought was that you are weird when you stood there talking to yourself, after all she works in a pool hall.

I think the dead give away was when your head started spinning 360 degrees, your eyes turned red, and you started puking pea soup on table 17.

Meaning Lou initiated the conversation. Of course I wouldn't put her on the spot - Pam and I had a great conversation after Lou left and she was very helpful to find me someone to play with, who turned out to be the owners.

Draw Lou in? He created the drama not me. I was just a visitor to a pool room. He could have ignored me completely yet he chose to engage me. And like all his stories this one is also embellished with spin and half truths.

I mean I don't know much but if the poor guy guy can't fade the tiny amount of small talk with just me and him in the room then he will probably be very uncomfortable in front of a crowd.

On the other hand he could just be as cold as a Mexican Mafia assassin. Are they ice cold?

In any event I played on his table and I watched him hit some balls. I feel even better about the game. Maybe if I get lucky I will get to play him in the One Pocket at DCC.

You must not spend much time in pool rooms....being weird is almost a requirement to be in them.

Lou might be an alien too John. He did work for Project Blue Book.

He might be packing a laser beam in his case.

No, I have spent almost too much time in our old hall. Someone needed to keep it alive and my beer habit pretty much took care of the staffs wages.

Are we not friends anymore Dick? Is this you hitting below the belt because I showed up to mess with your boy a little?

You should be praising me, guys like me keep guys like you employed. I have spent about $1000 with UPS in the past ten days.

Back in the 90s you probably delivered some of my cases. Thanks for your service.

As for Lou's service to the country, be real, he wasn't on the front lines in Afghanistan, he was a public relations officer, the guy appointed to spin and sell the story to the press. I probably held a gun more than Lou did when I was in the Air Force. I was tapped to go to Iraq to be on the ground support for an Army helicopter unit the first time around but they other guys in my unit went first and it was over - as such I would have been in full kit gun and all. Ask Lou how close he ever got to ever holding a gun in service to his country?

But that's all far away from the fun little visit to a pool room. I'd have been scared if Lou would have ignored me and kept practicing. Hope he gets a little thicker skin by the 18th or figures out how to make his headphones work properly.

JB wants to gamble and everyone is a patriot now?!?!?

Well, when they have no where else to go they play the China card.

Anyway I thought I was not hearing the song right that was coming out of Lou's headphones, sure enough it was Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Sung by Jane Monheit.

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow, Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream, really do come true...

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow, why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little blue birds fly beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

That's definitely interesting music to be listening to. Some good headphones when everyone else can listen along with you.

I am much more inclined to be a Billy Joel guy.....you may be right I may be crazy but I just might be the player you will lose to.....or something like that in the lyrics.....

Mr. Barton.... as someone who spent 4 of my last 7 Christmases in the sandbox, in "full kit gun and all" as you so poignantly put it, I ask that you show some respect.

You don't ljke Lou, fine, but you OWE him the same respect that I owe you. It matters not what your duty was, or what your reasons for serving were... we all raised our right hand and swore to defend the constitution of these great United States... all of us.

Brothers in arms, I am sorry that the values that keep our country safe have slipped your mind. I will dedicate a special section of my prayer tonight to you finding the honor that you seem to have misplaced.
God bless

First of all, thank you for your service.

Secondly, respect is a privilege, not a right. One's actions towards others determine the amount of respect they should be given. Lou has been a jerk to all those he disagrees with on something so trivial. Of course, John isn't perfect, and might also not be deserving of respect from others. However, I must disagree that Lou deserves any, just because he served.

But I thought you were just stopping in and that it was Lou that started the conversation ?

I mean, I don't care either way, but you showed up for the exact reason you just stated above, so own up to, and don't pretend it was anything other than what it was. Personally, I don't care either way, I tangle with you and Lou on occasion, so no skin off my teeth, but something just does not ring true in this :sorry:

Im not asking that Mr. Barton have personal respect for Mr. Figueroa... not my place. I ask that he not discredit ANYONES service to our country.

It is like talking bad about some ones mother... simply bad taste.

I have no dog in the fight, I just don't like my fellow soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines bad mouthing eachother outside of sanctioned competition.

If I met you tomorrow on the street and you ran into me without saying excuse me, and I noticed a vfw pin on your jacket... I would shake your hand and say thank you, regardless of you being a rude.dick who wasnt watching where he was.going... just sayin.

I disagree Beiber. Anyone who serves deserves respect. When they signed up, they agreed to make sacrifices in many areas. The Ultimate Sacrifice is what many have paid
and for little return when you think about it. Those who served under any capacity, can always hold their heads high, no matter who they were or are now.

There was a guy that used to post at another board. He got himself into a military band while others were getting shot up in Viet Nam. He was quite proud of it. Now, in that case, he gets zero respect, at least from myself.

Lou used to write amazing pool stories. He hasn't in some time. Wonder why.

As a rule, he never used to get overly wound up unless someone was constantly poking him. But he could also hand out some pokes as well, goes both ways.

OF COURSE RJ. That is obvious to everyone. I think I stated about a hundred times that I would be going to St. Louis on the way to DCC.

My point is that it was SIMPLY a little gamesmanship and for that matter I went there with no idea whether Lou would be there or not. Frankly I really only had an hour to spend and ended up spending four. I would have been much happier to have Lou walk in and find me on his pet table practicing.

But be that as it may I didn't START the conversation with Lou.... he opened up by asking me if I was packing. I said, "a pool cue"....

But at the end of the day I don't care if Dick wants to play the China card, wave the flag, whatever.... I do all this FOR FUN and if I am not having fun then I won't do it. This is not a life or death thing, it's a match for 10,000 dollars born out of an internet grudge. I can laugh at myself for the stupidity of it, still have fun with and STILL have the killer instinct to want to bury Lou.

God it's so hard to convey in the written word on these forums what a simple raised eyebrow or a wink does in a fraction of a second. You would THINK that people could read between the lines after all this time.

Y'all need to chill for a moment. When people volunteer for the military they aren't always doing it to SERVE the country or fight for freedom. In fact recruiters SELL the military as a JOB where it's unlikely that you will see any action whatsoever. Especially the Air Force, which I was in.

When I talk about Lou's JOB in the military it's ONLY because he told us all about it. He has tried to beat us up over the years talking about his VAST experience as a PR man for the Pentagon. Some of you are not aware of this because you haven't walked this path with Mr. Figueroa for more than a decade. Some of us have and we aren't impressed with Lou's credentials.

When people sign up to go off to war and put themselves in harm's way in the belief that they are trying to protect the ideals that America is built on then I have respect for that choice even if I don't support the war they are fighting or the government's decision to send them there. However you got there if you're in the shit then you're in the shit and I can't begin to imagine what it's really like facing people who are trying to kill you everyday.

The closest I got was being handed a rifle and told to guard a generator out in the woods during my first week in Germany. And I thought at the time I didn't sign up for this. When Iraq happened in 1990 I was in line to go. I had made up my mind to go and do what I swore to do if that is what I was ordered to do. I didn't get the orders. So while there is ALWAYS some chance that any person in the military might see actual combat in some jobs the chance is so remote as to be practically non-existent.

And if a person wants to BRAG about that type of job in the military then I don't personally think that they deserve extra respect for it. In my opinion being a PR man for the Pentagon is about the same difference as being a PR man for any large company, you're spinning the story for a paycheck.

And lastly, if you're in that kind of job AND you really want to SERVE the nation, why not stay in? Why did Lou retire at the 20 year point and take a check every month for the rest of his life instead of staying in and serving the nation?

So my point here is don't take any of this out of context - if Lou wants to USE his Air Force job to tell people off....then he shouldn't be upset if people look at what that job actually was and make fun of it.

Hands up....how many of you BELIEVE that any military spokesman would tell the press the truth about anything important? I don't. And one of the reasons would be for security purposes that you wouldn't reveal the truth. So while that's a valid reason to lie it's STILL lying to the public who pays your salary. If a guy spends 20 years "spinning" the story to professionals then he will run rings around the amateurs here.

That's my side of it. I swore the same oath Lou did. I don't ask for anyone's respect because of it and I don't use my job experience in the military to beat anyone up on this forum. (Observing the weather isn't really applicable here anyway)

So let's not confuse the vets who were really "in the shit" as they say, with the ones who pushed paper and were never out of sight of a WalMart during their whole tour.

But I thought you were just stopping in and that it was Lou that started the conversation ? I mean, I don't care either way, but you showed up for the exact reason you just stated above, so own up to it, and don't pretend it was anything other than what it was.

RJ...Its hard to believe you haven't noticed.. Getting John Barton to admit he was wrong about ANYTHING, is an impossibility !..Of the thousands of members here on AZB, there are experts in many fields..At least they think they are, 'til John straightens them out !..For example, I am sure there are at least few 'aeronautical engineers' among us.. I dare them to bring up THAT subject..John will do his best, to make them look like complete idiots !

Its a good thing Efren or Frost never post here, he would definitely try to make them look like rank amateur's at one pocket !..I'm sure he would also lecture SVB, on the proper way to break 10 ball !..Fact is, he has spent 95% of his 20,000 posts, trying to convince us there is NO subject he is not an expert at !..The remaining 5% are spent, calling us idiots, for doubting him !..I only wish he was around back in my prime..He could have brought my game up a few balls...At least I'm sure he would have tried !

SJD

At times, John makes Obama look like the Rev. Billy Graham. :embarrassed2:

ATT00738.jpg
LATE EDIT;..I see his last post is proving my point !..He is telling a vet, that no one dare call him 'unpatriotic'...... ..UNBELIEVABLE !...And nice poking at Lou again, John...At least he got HIS 20 yrs. in, and didn't run off to China !
Its obvious to all, YOU could learn a few things from Lou...specifically "Public Relations and Patriotism" !
