Roll Out

The better player is going to win most games most of the time regardless of rules
this make belief thinking that 1 foul some how ruined the game is like saying the King james version is ruining christianity ,,,, its simply a non factor

By your response, it seems like you possibly may have not played much push out pool. My idea was to entertain the possibility of a strategy changing the outcome of the contest by controlling the flow of the game.

One pocket players that don't have the abilities to run balls like their opponents can take down a sharpshooting player who isn't familiar with a higher caliber level of play. To a lesser degree, roll out offers some of the same ideas where a lesser player can overcome a difference in ability between two players. I'm not talking between a champion and a newb, but where a match would be equal with one player spotting another an eight or nine ball, or the last two.

I say this from experience. When I first started to play 9 ball, it was in ring games at the bars. After moving into the pool rooms and being unfamiliar with push out strategies, guys that I could beat were giving me tough games. I learned the ropes and eventually used that knowledge to torture players that couldn't move as well as I did.

And I never thought one shot foul was ruining pool.

Best,
Mike

I love it when people think that we who don't like the current rules can't kick/jump. I love taking their money even more!;) It doesn't change the fact that the current rules leave a LOT to be desired strategically.

However the fact remains is that opinion of the rules is obviously in the minority or they would still be playing push out which compared to one pocket is checkers to chess
So the one who are the chess players still have a option

Sigh....

I will again write that the APA rules with slop and one foul ball in hand are the rules that the pros were playing 8-ball at the time. Silly or not.

One foul ball in hand 9-ball was / can be traced to others tournaments.

I was referring to a rollout after breaking and not having a shot at the 1 or lowest ball. The breaker shouldn't be penalized for a bad roll and be forced to make an offensive shot.

edited to address the 9 ball APA rules. 8 has its own issues.

I just don't get this whole thing. If a person is running a tournament, why don't he make up the rules with 2 shot push out.

People running the tournaments can make any rules they want. What are they waiting for?

I like ball in hand after every miss and no push out after the break. Get rid of all the sissy push outs and safety play.

So who's ready to play pool and stop shooting balls and missing on purpose?

Bring skill back into the game with great shot making and getting lucky.

I've said that before and am in complete agreement- ball in hand after a miss and never a push.

That said, cj said they had a tourney like that and is suCked...though he wouldn't say why. I know the best player did not win though.

Most people today have never even played push out 9 ball and don't understand it. According to some of the posts here recently, people are getting tired of the faults with the current rules and would like to see them changed. Opinion has nothing to do with it, it's experience that gets things changed.
