Excuse my ignorance... but who is Alvin?
I hear his commentary on all the videos, but I never seem to catch a last name... I was just curious as to how he plays, and if anyone has any info on him?

Alvin's high run in straight pool is 298. He can bench press the same number also. His last name is Nelson because he coined that wrestling move the Full Nelson.

Bottom line is that without Alvin we wouldn't have nearly the number of free streams from InsidePool. I suspect he's the one guy that JR was able to find that would travel around the country, work 14 hours a day and put up with innumerable "fires" at every event. Given InsidePool's economics, I'm sure Alvin isn't part of "the 1%."

Sure, his commentary drives me batty so I usually have to mute it. But he has gotten better (no more screaming "Live! Baby, Live!"...there is a God ).

I wish more pros would step up to help Alvin with the commentating duties. That's an important step to building a fan base, but I guess most of them don't think there's any value to having a fan base.

Half-nelson ,Full- nelson, Father -nelson,.... sounds like the worlds most interesting man to me. Stay thirsty my friends.

I most definitely appreciate his hard work, and cannot fault him for facilitating for all of us... but some of his commentary is pretty terrible... especially the banter with people in chat... THATS WHAT THE CHAT IS FOR, STOP TALKING TO CHAT ON THE STREAM!!!

Anyway, I was just curious as to whether he could actually play some, or whether he is just a railbird?

I Agree. No offense to Johnny Archer, but either stop commenting matches or actually start commenting the match if you have to be commentator.

Alvin is da man' and he travels all over the world! The 10 ball coverage will be better this year with him there.

Agreed. But it's the job of the host commentator to ask interesting questions of the guest commentator, and keep the guest "on topic." I recall a 10-ball match between a top American and a top European snooker player (I forget exactly who) that Nelson/Archer commentated. I badly wanted to hear Archer's thoughts on the different styles of the two players; does a different style change your strategy?, etc. But they went off talking about pool politics so I muted the audio.

I don't expect the guest commentator (pro player) to be a stand-alone good commentator; the guest has to be lead by the host.

Not even Ed Snowden knows anything about Alvin. One of my favorite streamers.

Love alvin's commentating... sure maybe it's not super professional, but there's personality there... it's funny when he points out when the layout looks like a "smiley face"

Helloooo

Not as terrible as the girl who was commenting with Tony during Earl vs Efren (8 ball) match on 20ft table in steinway. I had to mute the whole thing.

You got a point there...
Jayson Shaw commented a match, that was really cool, so i do appreciate players commenting, they just need to focus on the game, not the chat or personal issues or AZB quarrels...

I'd also like to thank Alvin for helping to bring us all of these great matches. And I'll take 10 "Live! Baby Live!"'s if he will just stop switching camera angles every 3 seconds...
