2 made 41k
2 made 37k
everyone else is under 30k with most WAY under 20k

Take out expenses, tax, and misc and you have ONE Player making a good living and 2014 is going to be a lot worse.

IMO the only way a dozen or more U.S players can make a living at this time is for the players (about 20 of them) to let a promoter run 12 tournaments a year with only U.S players. The players need to do everything in their power to help the promoter/ tour/tournaments draw fans, PPV, and sponsorship.

They can't compete with the other countries anymore. Most of our purse money goes out of the country. I predict if things don't change in a big way this year you won't have 5 good players left in the U.S to fill the MC Team or in major events...if any major events remain.

I have often said people who want more money in pool should be carful of what they wish for if prize money gets big enough for players to cross oceans for American players will be hard pressed to compete ,,

International events

The best thing that could happen for Pro pool is to have the Europeans and Asians coming to American events in bigger numbers. American pro players will not travel to world events , wheather because of Money or lack of sponsership or what ever.

It would definitely make our elite players up thier games and with the attention that is garnered in Europe and Asia , it will not be long before sponsers start paying attention
 
I personally would have zero interest in tourneys that excluded the powerhouse players from Asia, Europe, and now Canada. Makes no difference where the players come from, they better show up with their A game if they expect to earn.

There's too many pro pool players for too little reward. Answer? More invitationals like Jay and Greg are doing with the Bigfoot 10-ball. Imagine how silly professional baseball would be if we kicked out all the immensely talented Latinos just so every US player who felt like playing could get a piece of the pie.

We've got Shane, Dechaine, Shuff, and a bunch of other young guns appearing on the scene. Earl's still hitting them great, Archer is a stone killer. Rodney, Hatch and Oscar are all playing the best they've ever played. If the second tier pros want to earn more, let them earn the right by working their way through the local tours, or placing near the top of the field at the Open or DCC.

what makes you think that they had 5 good players this year ? the results speak for what it is. Or was there a split?

Of the players you named only SVB made any good money. Most of the rest could apply for food stamps. Johnnyt

There are tons of lesser players chipping away at the available purse money. Let them get jobs so the very best players can play in smaller, more tightly structured tourneys like Jay's event. There are just too many players to support them all, and it's hard to separate the best from the second tier players with the current way of doing things.

Tougher equipment (10' table with 4 1/2" pockets), longer races, multiple sets, etc. can bring of the best of the best. Why share what little money is there with lesser players who play well enough to occasionally snap off a decent event? What other pro sport lets just anybody join the ranks of the pros?

The problam is those lesser players are making up the majority of the prize funds with out them pool thats barely staying afloat would sink like a rock

So true. The way we're doing things isn't working, but we keep on doing it that way.

I hate what BB did for pool in 2013, but at least Chiborak had the right model. Pro players being paid a salary. Find the money, then put the best players out there for the public to see. Only major sponsorship from big corporations can support pool the way it wants to be supported.

JohnnyT you have a false premise . Pro pool players don't want to make a living. That's why they play pool!

Jay at one time wanted to double the entry fee for the Bigfoot. He found out it was a bad idea. Remember the 'million dollar challenge' with the $5k entry? 11 Players entered-only 189 short of a full field! And times are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more unfavorable for pool at the moment
