Help with Pool Experiment / Part 3

Both players remind of APA 4's or D+/C- players.

I think you are WAY off base here. Either that, or I am playing in an area that has nothing but 2s and low level 3s.

They both appear to be strong 5s at the worst, but if I had to put a number on it, I'd give them both a solid 6 easy.

The OP asked for a letter, so I'll give them both a B.

Do you honestly believe these 2 are beginners?

Around here you have to start somewhere, and that is what the 2/3 level is for....that is for the absolute novice, and you say these 2 rank just above a novice?

I agree. I think they would be considered B players in Anchorage as well. Might be
C players in a larger metropolitan area?

If they are B players, I'm a shortstop.

The problem lies within the evidence. This could be one big sham and they are just d***cking around.

In anchorage, the girl is definitely a c player. If you took women only, she would be a B in the field. The guy would be a high C with low B moments, but he averages out as a C. Having moments of good shooting here and there is getting towards the end of a plateau, but he hasn't crossed the line into B player yet. If you put them in the palace handicapping system, the girl would average in the 60s, the guy in the 70s. B players would be in the 80s. That handicapping system is one of the more accurate I've seen. There have been c players win the end of season tournaments, and to me that says the system levels the field.

Just shows the regional differences in ability levels, I guess.

btw...I thought I just read in another thread you posted that you were recently moved down to a S/L 4 in APA? (maybe I misread, or it was an older post) If you rate them as a 4, and you are a 4, how are you rating yourself above them?

Chuck,
I agree with you if the grading system is strictly D, C, B & A. My assessment was based on D, C, B, A, & Open player, which as you know is used up here.

well i got bored so i watched the whole match.

now my opinion is not worth any more than any one else's on here lol

while they both made some pretty good shots.... they both missed some pretty easy ones.

after having watches 3 of his videos so far i would have to say he would be a strong 4 and maybe an average 5.

she on the other hand ...again just based on this match would be a very good 5 .. maybe even up to our higher level 5's. as far as either one being a 6 it would be her but i really cant call her a 6 due to her easy shots she missed.

6's in my area never miss those shots....never against me anyways lol.

i did see where a few times i thought they chose the wrong pattern selection. seemed like a couple of times they both had a problem dealing with problem balls...him more than her.

i think the biggest detractor keeping them from being ranked higher by me is their total lack of defense. i saw 1 half ass defense shot by her and none from him in either of his matches.

another thing that keeps him from being ranked higher by me is his problem with draw shots. he hit too hard and hit too much bottom which caused his aim to be off causing him to rattle pockets and sometimes he is off by 2-3'' or more.

perfect examples are 3 ball in corner 1st match and 6 ball in corner 2nd match. a good 5 makes those shots with no problem ..in my opinion of coarse.:D

Every other reply has the opinion that the guy is a better player. Glad to see someone finally figured out that's not the case.

They started me as a 4. That's what the big stink was about. The APA handicapping system is horrible. There are tons of 4's out here that could play as 6's or higher in 9ball and a good bit of 4's that can run racks in 8ball. Do you think an APA 4 should be winning 19-1 and above against 5's and 6's?

The letter rating's never really work, either. My 9ball game is better than my 8ball game and my one pocket game is better than my 9ball game. I play one pocket fairly well, I might add.

If I can get a camera set up, I'd like to do a similar "experiment" to this.
