Everyone that was helped out by Justin Hanson: 'JHANSO' here on AZBilliards,

I wanted to start a post to Thank Justin for going to the trouble and time and making the connections with Cody @ Diamond Billiards.

Doing this he acquired a group purchase plan for 30 people on this site to purchase these balls like a billiard proshop would be able to purchase them for.

Anyway, I wanted to personally thanks Justin for doing this and allow for others to through Justin Some GREENEY REP POINTS!!!!

Please when you receive them and start playing with them, use this post to put in you comments and feedback and impressions of all the different aspects of the balls, cue ball, skid, throw, dirt pickup, stay clean, polish, ease to clean up, etc. etc. etc.. .. .. ..



So, put your comments in this POST and let everyone follow up with how they like these compared to like the 1960's CENTENNIALS

Which in my opinion were the best balls ever made,

Then the new Aramith Tournament Series

Then New Centernnials

SO, Lets start giving our opinions and how we rank the top 5 ball sets of ALL TIME!!!

And why and what makes them better or worse,

The 1960's Centennials had a Hghest Phenolic Content for 7 or 8 years to the late 1960's to like 1971. These balls had like 55% Phenolic

The new Duramith Technology Balls have like, 50% phenolic.


The NEW CYCLOPS BALLS CONTAIN 85% PHENOLIC CONTENT!!!!!

They are produced to within +- .1 gram
These do produce a different feel and hit and throw and no cling,

Anyway, technology-wise, the Cyclops are the best of the best of all the Pool Ball Technology and Materials Cost in a set of Pool Balls!!!

That's it, give me all your opinions as the new ball sets start to arrive and the balls start getting lots of play time.

I had already purchased a set before the post was made but I played with them for the 1st time last night. I like how they played, they throw & roll more true than any set I've ever used. They didn't pick up chalk hardly whatsoever and I use Balabushka & Blue Diamond chalk which is pretty bad for that sort of thing. Super easy to wipe off and clean up. Their polished shine was pretty amazing. I just do wish they would come out with a different looking cue ball, something that looks more like a Measles ball. Overall it is a great set.
 
There were so many skids at the DCC- I cant see how these balls are not WORSE on skids/cling.
 
I played with them at the DCC and to be honest was not really impressed. But my question here is, is there some reason that a higher phenolic content makes them better? I've never seen any information that that is necessarily the case. It would be like saying a higher rubber content would make a tire better. It depends on the use of the tire what type of chemical makeup is best. And their ad info hypes the Hyatt connection but Hyatt didn't have as high a phenolic content either. I have a nice set of Hyatts and I like their play better than the Cyclops.
 
Thanks for the kind words Mike! I was just trying to help a few people get a better deal, so I could get one too. I was very happy to help out!!!

As to the cyclops, I don't have mine yet, but when I do I will right a full and thorough review of all aspects.

That being said, ALL DIAMOND TOURNAMENTS WILL BE USING CYCLOP BALLS MOVING FORWARD.

The cling/skid properties are suppose to be more true. These balls supposedly use the same recipe that the older Hyatt Centennial balls used, which are arguably the best sets ever. In addition, the cue ball has a 3mm thick clear phenolic resin coat, which allows for less cling, and keeps it cleaner longer.

The above statement was what sold me on these balls. I hope they are as good as described above. Either way, for the pro's playing in the tourneys with these balls, might want to get a set.

I'm hoping to be happy. If I'm not, I will sell mine and buy aramith tournament balls.
 
11days of filming with almost every miss analyzed for possible replay... We replay ALL skids... There were 3...... I can guarantee you if you were getting more skids with the Cyclop than the Aramith set it likely was some variable at work besides the balls....
 
Mike.....I think Justin is already receiving praise & thanks on another thread about the Cyclop balls....it's a new thread and it's his own thread but thanks is being posted...the more the merrier......it'd be better if the posts were all on the same page/topic though.
 
Or how about comparing clean or polished pool balls with pool balls that have seen a few hours of play......
anyone notice that the throw shot increases a whole lot more, especially with slow ball rolls to the pocket.
The Cyclop set will be relatively glossy, shiny and squeaky clean with its new clear resin coating.

When I lived in Albany, the Albany Billiard Ball Co. was just down the street from my house. Not that that makes me an expert (the company was all but out of business by then) but I've always had a keen interest in anything related to Hyatt.

To the best of my knowledge, based upon everthing I've been able to find, Hyatt didn't start using cast phenolic resin in billiard balls until after Aramith was awarded the Brunswick contract to manufacture the Centennials. Before that time, Hyatt used a composite based on celluloid instead of phenolic resin. I believe that Hyatt's first use of phenolic resin in pool balls was the special 7-ball sets that were produced when TV was trying to lure viewers into playing the new game.

If this is true, Hyatt was the first to come to market with a specialized set of balls designed to play a new game nobody was interested in watching.

Does anybody know when this happened again? ;)
