There is a good interview with Willie on Freddy the beards site where he says that he basically learned everything from Greenleaf... He gives Ralph Greenleaf a lot of credit for his cueball control and many other aspect of the game...

Even if Mosconi himself had been quoted as saying that Greenleaf was not an important influence, I wouldn't believe it.

If you want to be the best at anything, you study the methods of the very best and soak it up like a sponge. Willie had access to Greenleaf, the very best at 14.1 in Willie's formative years.

Whether Greenleaf gave Willie de facto coaching or not, Mosconi's game was greatly influenced by Greenleaf, and having been around the very best player of the era was, without question, Willie's advantage.

Another player who likely benefited just from being around Greenleaf was Cranfield. I got a lesson from Jimmy Caras in 1998 and he said that when he and Cranfield were watching Greenleaf play, Cranfield could predict how Greenleaf would run the rack with remarkable accuracy. Caras said the trick was relatively simple: which out moves the cue ball the least?

You're welcome. ;)
