Break Speed App

I have it. I can't say it gets much use, but it is pretty cool. I don't know how accurate it is, though, given that I have nothing to compare it to.

True. It looks interesting. Will download it and take it to my pool match Thursday. Should entertain everyone for half hour I suppose!

I downloaded it. It is fun to play with for yeah about half an hour. Sometimes I break it out with friends at the bar and the person with the slowest speed has to buy a round. Sadly that was usually me so I put it away after I see the tab!

Does this work?

Is it any good?

Has anyone downloaded it?

Are there free alternatives?

Yes.
YES.
Yes.
No.

If you have a good connection, and a good eye for cue ball positioning, it even works (most of the time) on live streams. Just set your phone up next to your speaker. :)

Spend a buck, play around with it, hone your break shot, and enjoy!

I love it. When I practice against the ghost at home I always try to use it to time my break.

I don't know how to evaluate its validity, but the logic of the method sure makes sense. It would be nice to see some evaluation from the app makers. And it seems reliable just from my own perception. When I feel like I flub a break it registers lower and when I feel like I really get hold of one it registers higher. I average around 17 mph.

Has dr dave or any of the smart folks like him weighed in on this before?

I have it and it works GREAT! Lots of fun to use! But also good for researching which cue you break better, faster, etc. Also to check how other people break and compare to you.

Is worth the $5 for sure!

My avrg is between 19 & 20 mph using a 25oz cue and 17 & 18 mph using a lighter 15oz cue. I thought the lighter cue would give me a faster speed but it didnt... I will try a 18oz cue to see if it make a difference.

I bought it and I like it. I'm still working on my break and trying to figure out how different approaches to breaking effect my speed. It's been useful so far. Also good for comparing different cues I think. Before I tried I settled on what I thought was my best break but after using the app and doing some experimentation I've found I can add 2-3mph pretty easy by adjusting a few things. That was worth the $5 for me.

I think it is a very good app. Nothing to compare against so I don't know how accurate it is. I think the real value is for relative comparison. If you're looking to increase your break speed, you can see whether you're improving, or not, and the relative improvement. I don't know that it really matters what your break speed is, it's probably more important to see if your efforts to improve it are working.

I will add that the app seems pretty simple and with a few added features it could be so much more useful. First a way to simply save/delete certain breaks and then be able to go back and look at them would be nice. A feature that can average your breaks, and also a means for recording balls pocketed on the break and then correlating that with speed over time would seem like logical additions.

I had it with my iphone and was averaging between 24-27.5 mph. Personal best being 27.5. But since all Ive been playing is 1 hole Im liking .4 mph :)

I use mine for when I'm playing and also to work on my break with the Breakrak. I just leave it on the table and reset before every break when practicing.

I agree that it's needs to be able to keep a log. They could get rid of the Facebook link, just a waste for me.

Without any major adjustments, I'm at 18.5-20mph on my 8b break.

Haven't touched it in months though.
