God is not going to help you win your match!

I can't even imagine all the psychological games that believers must play with themselves when they attempt to come to grips with anything that, in their minds, seem to assail their beliefs. You are all grasping for straws. It is quite sad, really.

Morals predate religion.

Maybe I will let you know if that ever happens. Hasn't in 60 years so far. What really is sad is the number of people that want to scorn and not even acknowledge the existence of their creator when all He asks for is love from us.

This is just precious.

The reason I bring this up is that I've seen so many players yell that it's not fair, I've put so much into it, and still I'm not winning. I've seen them actually scream into the ceiling
cussing God, or whatever devine being they believe in for their misfortune, like they're OWED something for all their hard work.I'm not saying there is no God, I believe in him with all my heart, but he is not going to help you win your match. It is only you and your opponent in the game, and knowing that God is not going to help you is good thing, why? Because he is not going to help your opponent either. He is not going to help you make a shot, and he is not going to cause you to miss a shot. It is you, and only you doing this, and the sooner that some players learn this the better off they will be....practice will get you there, not God!

Depends on which god you speak of.If its that Jesus dude that folks seam to favor then you are going to be out of luck.

I suggest invoking a pool god or a god of war to better your chances.

Atheism is a position on a single subject: Is there a God? Atheists state that the God claim has not met it`s burden of proof.
What you are asking is: Why do atheists seem to be getting more attention and why are they so adamant about the seperation of church and state?

You can hold any belief you wan`t as long it does not infringe on other peoples freedom.
If that was possible it would be great, but religious people LOVE to proselytize and it`s a constant power struggle between believers; my religion is the right one, no mine is the only truth etc etc.
Beliefs have consequences in the real world, like impeding stem cell reserach, anti gay, anti abortion, anti equal rights, pro death penalty, the whole f*****g eye for an eye thing mentality.
Parents praying for their children instead of taking them to the doctor, not caring about climate change, because Jesus will come back in their lifetime (has been claimed for 2000 years now...)
Not accepting evolution and cosmology.
pius, pretend bullshit double standard moronic behaviour!
People have had it with this stuff, they want smart people with real educations, that knows basic stuff about how the world works and that has some basic understanding of history.

Yeah, don't you just hate it when people find something they think is really worthwhile and care enough about you to share it with you? All this free advice on here on how to play pool and what equipment to buy is just sickening, isn't it? Don't need anyone sharing things with me. Oh wait, you meant they can share anything as long as it's not about God. Nice double standard you have going there.

And, do you really think that picking out extremists and classifying all participants under that label is what people with "real educations" do??

Or is it just that if people actually acknowledge that there is a God, then they in turn have to acknowledge that one day they will be held accountable to Him, and they don't like that idea, so it's better to say there is no God. Maybe that's why so many get so upset as soon as God is even mentioned, they can't handle what it means if He is real.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence...

One thing that has always puzzled me is that very few Christians have even read the Bible cover to cover one time, let alone several times. How is it possible to believe the Bible is written by, influenced by, or even accurately containing information about the god they believe in, yet not find it the most important book that deserves to be read and studied throughout ones entire life?

I'm waiting to go to prison to read the bible cover to cover ... until then I just don't have the time.

Really only skimmed this thread, which is always fun. From what I gather you shouldn't blame God for losing a game of pool because if you were wearing woman's underwear you would of won, so it is your own fault. Or something like that.

Very easy to do. His points come from a total lack of understanding, yet he claims to be wise. Way too much to refute here, but, as far as God causing all the evil here, wonder why he left out the verses in the Bible he quoted that refute that very statement? Where does he get that we are all innocent, when God says even our best is as filthy rags? Why does he blame God for the evil in this world, when we are the ones that brought it here to start with? God's not a Sears catalog or some kind of genie that you just wish things and He has to obey.

He talks about people being saved at the last hour as a bad thing. Why does he not see it as the good thing that it is? Even though in God's eyes, none of us even come close to being "good" or "moral", he is still willing to save us from eternal punishment if we but ask Him too. Why is asking Him to, too much to do? Why do you expect to live in a world filled with evil that we brought here without experiencing any of that evil? Why is God, the creator, not allowed to choose who will and who won't get to live with Him for eternity. The same as any cuemaker is allowed to choose which cue will be allowed to be sold, and which cue that he made will go in the scrap pile? We are all His creation, what gives us the right to dictate to Him how he should use us? Can the pot tell the potter what it wants to be? If God wasn't loving, He would not allow us to be here now. He gives all a chance to choose to live with Him in His house.

If someone comes knocking on your door, and says they are now going to live with you. What would you tell them? Of course, you would tell them that you don't know them, and tell them to leave. Yet, they say they are moral, and tried to live a good life, so they should be allowed to live in your house. Of course you tell them to leave again.

What makes you think that you can deny God, and then one day stand before Him and tell Him that He is wrong for not allowing someone into His house that has denied Him? He will say that He doesn't know you, and to leave.

Maybe because of the parts they have read? Why is it that so many that don't believe the Bible, yet never have really read any of it? Yet they will preach on the rooftops that it is all false, but have no idea what they are even referencing?

That is not good enough sir!
I can deny God, because he does not exist.
If there is a God and a heaven it is not someone i would like to meet or a place i would like to be.
Don`t you think you would tire of giving endless praise after a couple of million years?

I feel for religious people who says that it`s only the belief in a God that keeps them from raping and murdering.
That begs the question: How do you explain that the best countries in respect to life expectancy, education, equal rights etc also is the most secular countries?

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence...

That reply is just a red herring, but, you have had that extraordinary evidence, in Jesus, yet still don't believe. Sadly, even when God shows Himself to many, they still refuse to believe. No amount of evidence would be sufficient for some. There isn't a single person that can show that loving God and following His rules is a bad thing. Yet they refuse to do so and then claim the hypocrisy of some people doing evil things and claiming it was for God as reason to not do the simple thing that God asks..namely, to accept Him and love Him.

When people learn to have God at the forefront of there lives instead of
just turning to him when there luck has gone awry, they will see a change.

I remember debating in school and people always wanting proof when it comes
to God.
I remember asking one guy if he loved his parents, he replied with '' Of course I do''.
I said'' Good, now prove it''.
He said '' I would die for my parents''.
I told him '' Look, I'm not saying you don't love your parents but what I am
saying is, you can't prove it''
Love and God may be the only 2 things on Earth you should never have
to prove, its just something you know and believe.
Not being able to prove something doesn't always mean it doesn't exist.
He smiled and said'' I never looked at it like that before''
I told him ''For along time, neither did I. ''

Jesus?? That`s your evidence? That is why i can`t take religious people seriously.
Give me some evidence for Jesus existence from outside the bible!
I think you should read some books about early Christianity, Judaism and how the bible was compiled and what we now know about the creation of that book.
Bart D. Ehrman has several good ones: Forged, Misquoting Jesus and Jesus interrupted.
If you care to read Robert M. Price, Richard Carrier and a few others, you would see that there might not even have been a historical Jesus and he certainly was not divine.
Google: Raglan scale. It`s a 22 point ranking based on common traits in ancient hero stories.
It bases it`s to score on the story about Mithrades VI wich tops the scale at 22 points. Jesus gets 19 points.

You are free to believe as you wish, it's called free will. As to your question, it doesn't even make any sense. Care to name those countries with better equal rights than the U.S.A.? Life expectancy is genes and food intake and a host of other things all added together. Education is a result of a countries policies, not it's religion. Our leaders are long gone by the wayside when it comes to actual leading. Why would you think that just because a country is supposed to follow God, which, as you know, this country falls far short of, that they have a genie in a bottle?

God does bless those that follow His ways. Why do you think the U.S. got so big so fast, and now that they left God behind, they are falling fast? Why do you think the little tiny country of Israel is so important to the entire world?

You of course are free to read any books and believe whatever nonsense you feel like. But, rather than just read their book, and take it as the gospel, why not read the Bible with the same earnest, and then compare? Much of what they say is actual nonsense and made up. Doesn't even relate to real history. Yet, they have no problem getting people like you to eat it all up as gospel because it fits your agenda. Why not also read some of the other books besides the Bible that approach the same subjects and compare them?

Aren`t you reading the ultimate nonsense book?
The scholars I`m refering to are serious scholars with real Ph.Ds from real universities.
I have read the bible several times and the Torah, the Quran and the Hadith`s
Bart D. Eherman is a professor of religious studies at University of North carolina at Chapel hill.
You should get you facts straight if you want a serious debate.

Oh! and by the way: Free will IS an illusion!

Wow! Really? Did you really just say free will is an illusion? If that is so, why do you choose to argue about something you have no choice in?

As far as the "real Ph.D's", do you really put that much faith in that? Really? All the professors at Harvard have the best ideas for this country? All the degrees in our gov. people, they must be making the best choices for this country then, right? And yet, some of those scholars always refer back to the Bible for history....hmmm... all nonsense, huh?

edit: I just have to add this- you put so much faith in your degrees and universities, which is your choice, but I'll put mine in the creator of all, you know, the one that wrote that book you call "nonsense".

Does it mean I am atheist if I think the bible is a joke, but I don't know if there is a higher power or maybe a god even.
