God is not going to help you win your match!

Does it mean I am atheist if I think the bible is a joke, but I don't know if there is a higher power or maybe a god even.

That would make you an agnostic atheist, in other words, you don't believe in god(s), but you don't know for sure or don't think it is possible yo know for sure.

Note: gnostic atheists, those who don't believe in god(s) and think that they know that for a fact that god doesn't exist, are a very small minority of atheists. Usually consisting of shitheads on the internet who haven't done their research properly or at all. All major atheist figure heads i.e. Dawkins, Silberman, Hitchens, etc. all admit or admitted a small possibility of god existing, but a possibility so small that for all intensive purposes they can say affirmatively that there is no god. This would put them in the agnostic atheist category.

Wow! Really? Did you really just say free will is an illusion? If that is so, why do you choose to argue about something you have no choice in?

As far as the "real Ph.D's", do you really put that much faith in that? Really? All the professors at Harvard have the best ideas for this country? All the degrees in our gov. people, they must be making the best choices for this country then, right? And yet, some of those scholars always refer back to the Bible for history....hmmm... all nonsense, huh?

edit: I just have to add this- you put so much faith in your degrees and universities, which is your choice, but I'll put mine in the creator of all, you know, the one that wrote that book you call "nonsense".

Neil you are brainwashed!
Your arguments make no sense, wich scholars refer back to the bible as a historic document? apart from idiots like Ken Ham and other creationists.
I don`t put faith in anything, i look at the evidence
I hope you start reading some history, maybe you will have a better understanding of the bible and religion in general...
As for free will, thats not even a debate.
Did you choose where you where born? did you choose your parents? If you are born with a disability or extra ordinary talent, did you choose that?
If you are born in Congo and end up as a cocaine using child soldier, did you choose that? If you have the brain of a psycopath and have parents that don`t give you love and a safe childhood and you become a serial killer, did you choose that?
If you wake up in the morning and crave a cup of coffee, do you know why you wan`t that.
For us to have free will, it requires us to think our thoughts before we think them...

As humans, something as complexed as religion would take much more than
a lifetime.
My father told me that if you put the bible down and look at only the 10 commandments, you will see where humanity stands.
I told him, I didn't quite understand what he was saying.
He said, think of it this way. If society cant follow 10 rules (commandments)
how would you expect the average person to understand something
as powerful as God?
Law enforcement would no longer be needed if we could follow 10 rules.

Yes, you are an atheist.

This is more-or-less a matter of the definition of the word atheist. The word has evolved. It used to refer essentially to a person that claimed knowledge the gods don't exist. Then that position became known as "strong atheism."

I prefer a much broader definition--one that is becoming more and more widespread. Everybody is either a theist or an atheist. A theist is a person that makes specific claims of knowledge about the existence of god(s). Atheists are everybody else.

Dogs and babys are atheists, as are pool cues.

A person replying "I don't know" to the existence of gods question?: atheist

A person who doesn't think about the question: atheist

A person who makes a vague statement that "I have a feeling there's got to be something bigger than us": atheist

It's when those statements have specific assertions about the existence of specific gods, about the existence of an afterlife, revelation as a basis for morality, revelation as the source of knowledge----these are theist positions.

Frankly I think most people on the planet are atheists--many of them going to dinner parties claiming to be Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Mormon, etc... Generally it's easier to just play along. Think about it. If you are in Karachi and you claim it's unlikely Mohamed flew to heaven on a winged horse, suddenly the burden appears to be on you to provide alternative explanations for all life's big questions.... Who wants that?

What really is sad is the number of people that want to scorn and not even acknowledge the existence of their creator when all He asks for is love from us.

Seriously...... that's the stupidest thing I have ever read on AZ.

Wow you lot still debating the existence of a God?
Anyway if you do find him tell him to come to see me in my office I want a word with him.

Very easy to do. His points come from a total lack of understanding, yet he claims to be wise. Way too much to refute here, but, as far as God causing all the evil here, wonder why he left out the verses in the Bible he quoted that refute that very statement? Where does he get that we are all innocent, when God says even our best is as filthy rags? Why does he blame God for the evil in this world, when we are the ones that brought it here to start with? God's not a Sears catalog or some kind of genie that you just wish things and He has to obey.

He talks about people being saved at the last hour as a bad thing. Why does he not see it as the good thing that it is? Even though in God's eyes, none of us even come close to being "good" or "moral", he is still willing to save us from eternal punishment if we but ask Him too. Why is asking Him to, too much to do? Why do you expect to live in a world filled with evil that we brought here without experiencing any of that evil? Why is God, the creator, not allowed to choose who will and who won't get to live with Him for eternity. The same as any cuemaker is allowed to choose which cue will be allowed to be sold, and which cue that he made will go in the scrap pile? We are all His creation, what gives us the right to dictate to Him how he should use us? Can the pot tell the potter what it wants to be? If God wasn't loving, He would not allow us to be here now. He gives all a chance to choose to live with Him in His house.

If someone comes knocking on your door, and says they are now going to live with you. What would you tell them? Of course, you would tell them that you don't know them, and tell them to leave. Yet, they say they are moral, and tried to live a good life, so they should be allowed to live in your house. Of course you tell them to leave again.

What makes you think that you can deny God, and then one day stand before Him and tell Him that He is wrong for not allowing someone into His house that has denied Him? He will say that He doesn't know you, and to leave.

Do you read a Disney cartoon and believe everything word for word and put all your faith into it?? Because that is exactly what you are doing when you put all your faith into the bible. It is a FICTIONAL book, written by MAN, not god. Man created this myth, not the other way around.

Maybe because of the parts they have read? Why is it that so many that don't believe the Bible, yet never have really read any of it? Yet they will preach on the rooftops that it is all false, but have no idea what they are even referencing?

Nice assumption Neil. I have read the bible cover to cover, grew up in a private christian educational system and church. I'm sure many others here who disagree with you are educated in this matter also.

Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh, drink his blood and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity, all because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

Lions tigers and bears, oh my.

Gee whizz, whatever happened to "tastes great!" ....."less filling!"

Yall is crazy

I figured you would respond to that when I wrote it. Please note that I said "so many", I did not say "all".

wow! I don't really even know how to respond to your post! You have no clue about archaeology, you don't even know what "free will" means.

Neil - Do you believe the Book of Mormon reveals fundamental knowledge about the true nature of our existence that is not available elsewhere?

If you do not, what is your basis for passing judgment?

Careful guys, you might upset Neil and he will punish us by editing all his posts to a line of dots.
