The only advantage is you have to play one less match, I think whoever comes in from the losers side has a distinct advantage.

Yes but not a very strong field for some reason. Only a few top 1p players in it.
There is. John Schmidt took 4th, Paul Helms 3rd, Joey Gray is 3-2 to Chip Compton in the final going to 5. Paul Helms had his only loss in the semis, but the final 4 are single elim. Joey's from the winner's side, Chip has one loss.
Karen left herself tough on the 5. Cuts it in and ends up on the short side of the 6. 7&8 are both down. Makes it with shape on the 9 and it's over. Final score 10-6.
