John and Lou, the plain truth

i understand your point!

But, do you understand mine???

How many people do you know that have college education, weddings & etc. funded for their small kids? It takes time to save typically for these things.

I am certain if you asked John he would say in hind sight he could have done a number of things with $10,000 today to put his family in a BETTER position. He could have bought stocks, Property & etc. Jbcases has a REAL opportunity loss associated with this bet that is unavoidable and real.

He could have bought in at the ground level of the next big thing with that money but now when the opportunity presents itself. He is left with regret cause he had the money if he had only avoided the bet. Things like this come back to haunt people. My dad's friend in New York had an opportunity to invest in Palmer video and took it. Palmer grew to be one of the biggest video rental companies and worth millions. He hung at the pool room with toby sweet in up state new york. Guys name was Vinnie Cassiopa spelling could be wrong? This kind of stuff happens and opportunities come and go! You have to be READY when they do!

Plus, the tone and wording of Tate's post would lead one to believe he has/had that information to make his original post and start this thread and course of discussion.

KD

One day you will realize buying stock and investing in start-ups is a huge gamble.

For every start-up that makes it there are 9 that fail.

I liked when John asked if he could put up the cash by way of PayPal. Would have beautiful if Lou said "put up as a gift or add 3%":killingme::killingme:

Tate I find what you say to be a great point, one that morons around here will insult, mostly because the people on the internet love to lie and make up this imaginary life where they like to believe $10K is not a lot of money and it's something they would or do take part in. Truth is $10K is a huge sum and nothing to joke about.
But what I find worse is that John and his wife have obviously left 2 small children 1/2 way across the globe to play this stupid match. I have a little girl and when I do leave her for a few days for work I can't wait to get home, the most I have ever been away is 3 days. I wonder how long John has been away? It's really sad that the kids miss out because someone wants to prove he can pee further then the other guy.

Sorry, but you are sooooo way off base here, its not even funny. Plus you insult people here and call them morons?? I think you should look in a mirror and you will see the moron. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, who the "F" are you to judge??

I don't get these lies? I mean this will no doubt be his excuse as to why losing $10K was all worth it. But how about the truth?? I mean you bought a JB case because JB cases are really nice looking and good cases. I mean I get you are trying to help the guy off the ledge, but if you really bought a case because he bet some money then you are not that smart. Do you guys realize that posting on AZ is FREE, he could have posted 300 times in the last 3 months and you would have seen the same sig line that way. With his antics I feel he lost as many sales as he may have gained but anyone who really bought a case because the guy gambles is either dumb or lying.

.........and the stupidity goes on........and again you call people here names.

I guess the part where he didn't need to bet $10K, that number was just an attempt to high roll a guy. I also guess the part where he could have gotten the same PR for free just by posting here for free. Also what part about leaving 2 small children for a long period without their parents do you feel is ok just so you can boost your ego by playing a game you aren't even good at. I am happy they played, I just disagree that the payoff was worth what he lost.

jesus....... Do you know for a fact that John and Karen left their children or are you just spouting off again???

Exactly any pr is good pr. Jb who makes a great case just got 10k worth of advertising and got his face known all over the net. Which would have cost well over 10k . Who really came out on top????????

I bought a Jb case afew years ago thing is a work of art:o

If, which I doubt, he did this as a marketing ploy then it was a business decision. I doubt people were impressed to the tune of $10,000 worth of sales but maybe so.

If on the other hand he did this because he thinks he can play pool then he should have listened to the sound advice from people who were telling him otherwise because he can't play pool.

I'm pretty sure Mr. Barton wouldn't bet $10k on a pool match if it was going to completely ruin his life, family, kids, dogs, neighbors, college funds and so on like some of you are making it sound.

Since when did publically bashing people for doing what they want with their own hard earned money become an acceptable topic to discuss on?

You all need to chill out. The 10k was my fun money.

You all don't need to worry about my finances or my children.

Ten thousand is a lot for some and a pittance for others. You can find a million things better to spend 10k on but if you are a pool player at my speed there isn't much better than playing in front of Pat Fleming's cameras with an opportunity to win 10 thousand.

To those concerned thanks. It is appreciated but not neccesary. To those who think that this was shameful I disagree. I think it was two guys stepping up to square off in the game they both have a lifelong love of.

Other people would have handled it differently. We chose this way. To me it was a fine display of heart on both side with genuine raw emotion on my part. The spike every time I made a really tough shot to win a game was something you can't buy. It is earned by bringing it under pressure.

To me this was no different than spending 10k learning to skydive. I went for the brass ring and now I have the experience.

Also I have said this before but I would not trade the 10k for the experiences and friendships I have formed these past months. I am now a better player than I was when I started and still love the game more than ever before.

I wouldnt worry too much about JB- he is after all a multi-ten thousandaire - if he looses 10K he goes and gets another 10K. Thats the difference

I think you should call the Shanghai Child Protection Services and report him.

Wow, first some people find John despicable because he bet $10K of his money, now he is a poor Parent. I wouldn't be at all surprised if John's net loss was in fact, a net profit and I'd bet John and his wife are better Parents than at least half the people posting on this forum. If you don't like the guy for his posting here, or for whatever reason, just say that. But for goodness sakes, quit with all the insane bullshit, it's embarrassing to even read.

makes gr8 cases and very bright, however, his progress as a pool player will stall because his stroke is substandard and, at this point, not repeatable

straight pool might be his best game

his match with Lou was enjoyable to sweat because both gave their all

What a stupid post. Do you know for sure his kids have been home without both parents the whole time? His wife likely only came for the expo and the match.

Oh, you didn't even think of the expo, did you? The place where john likely sold more cases in 3 days than he will the rest of the year. Supposedly all the custom line of cases sold out the first day. He also made other business stops along the way.

If all of John's financial obligations are taken care of, then he's free to bet whatever amount he wants. There's a difference between money used for gambling and money used for everything else, but the OP is wanting to put the two together.

Let's also not forget about the bet increase and side bets that John eventually turned down. That wouldn't have happened if he were half the degenerate the OP makes him out to be. Instead, he (and his wife), decided that betting the 10k was more than enough.

John and Lou

Congrats on the win Lou, I watched the whole match. I have never watched a streamed match that long, it was very entertaining and you guys did it with class. Congrats also to John Barton for putting up a good fight and taking it to day two. I for 1 enjoyed it very much. Gary Lutman

Bravo. IMO, FWIW, BTW, LOL - this match and banter has been extremely entertaining to many. For you and Lou to step in the box as you did - well that just doesn't happen very often on the public stage.

The play was mostly darn good. The sportsmanship was commendable. It was absolutely one of the most enjoyable and memorable streams I've ever watched.

Kudos.

Congrats to both guys for stepping up an playing. It was fun and painful to watch all at the same time :D

to all the no gamblers that sit home or just bang balls for nothing all there lives you are missing the thrill of living and taking risks in life.
life is more than protecting your money and worrying about what other people do with theirs.
both players tested themselves to their limits and have a great experience to remember the rest of their lives. you should envy them.

10k is 10k regardless of how much money you make.

Just think back on the times when you were young and how hard it was to save 10k. Basically 10k was flushed down the toilet.

As for lifestyle change for JB, yes, 10k is going to make you think about whether you should continue playing.

This is true if we had two world class players. #1 and #2 and there are no more opponents to play against.

This was good amateur players throwing money out their for pride.

It really wasn't about pool.
