John and Lou, the plain truth

As for getting the match established - #1 there was a lot of animosity and #2 there was a behind-the-scenes instigator in Mike Lalumiere. I can promise that neither Lou nor myself ever barked to play for more than a couple hundred a game at most and it was not our idea to play for 20k. I am actually flattered that Mike went to such lengths to "get me". I can't carry a torch of hatred against someone to that extreme. That he would play this game behind the scenes and then make the trip for the match was awesome for me. It was a surprise but I guess it shouldn't have been.

Him again? Maybe we should make a conference call to his mom?:smile:

Well, it doesn't matter now because my focus is shifting in another direction. Definitely no watching one pocket and will put the matching up on the shelf for a while as I focus on growing our business. Pool playing for me is now about enjoying the excellence of playing a pure game and being happy I am able to do that.

I will pass through St. Louis many times. Cue and Cushion and The Break are stops I will always try to make for sure. I also want to visit the other pool rooms in the area.

Well, John, now that you busted that live-stream virginity, it's time to branch out. The U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship has been reduced to 128 players with $1,000 entry fee. I think you should get in. :)

This year, I have a bucket list, and I hope to see you there. :wave2:

John you played good no worries and Lou played good but what was really nice as far as we could see on the stream is that you both appeared to be gentlemen and classy. If you fouled you jumped right up and gave it to him. He did the same. I want to thank you for doing the match and making the streaming possible. I don't play or watch one pocket too much so for me it was a learning experience. Oh btw I just bought one of your ultimate rugged cases. Love it ! Great job ! Thanks again.

I kind of having a sneaking suspicion that John will generate sales to exceed $10,000 due to this exposure. I'll bet sales are up right about now. ;)

Kind of a good advertising strategy.

The overseers, that's who!!

These omniscient ones see all, know all, and want to make sure the whole world knows how smart they are and that only THEY have all the answers to EVERYONE else's lives and if those stupid ones don't do as the omniscient ones say, they are not just of a different opinion, but WRONG!!...wrong, I say!!!

Bow down to your masters or you're stupid and wrong.

imho, :p

There is an upside to this for the loser of the set that you might not have considered Tate.

Before 2 days ago I haven't been on AZBilliards for quite awhile. I have no idea what transpired between these two guys, but I'm guessing it was some severe "peacocking" that led up to "put your money where your mouth is" situation..

Long story short, I haven't been on here in awhile, and before this deal I have never even heard of "JBCases." I enjoyed the live stream and the entertainment. I think for marketing purposes he couldn't have asked for more name recognition / exposure for his company then this set. (win or loss).

I am in the market for a new case and will be ordering something very soon.. I hadn't even started to consider what I wanted, but now I'm not considering any other case mfg other then JBCases. Something to think about.

JB is just so much dumber than the omniscient ones...can't you all see it????!!!???

He should just do as the smarter ones tell him to do, then he'll have a happy life.

People have called JB many things over the years on here, but one thing is clear -- he is NOT stupid.

if most of us were playing for 10 grand, we would need a catheter installed.

Only if we didn't have it to lose or no backer
John has already stated he will make it back in a week or so
In other words a weeks pay check I'm more than sure many have played for that win or lost
Lou was backed I'm more than sure if a sign up sheet was posted her you would need a tablet

Jeff,

My whole point of my post that generated your response above, was to introduce the concept of "Opportunity Loss" from my economics classes.

This all knowing, all seeing stuff is more than a bit over board and over the top! I never said nor did i insinuate what course of action ANYONE should take! Plus, the original poster eluded to having some insight into the financial status/history of those involved.

(snip) I also want to visit the other pool rooms in the area.

John, I replied in a PM to you about a request you made a few months back about using scrap leather for something pool related. I didn't receive a reply.

I live in Des Moines, a hop, skip and jump from St Louis.

Can we meet soon? I can make the road trip, if you can't. Big Dog's is a nice pool hall here in town, btw.

I wasn't referring to you but bouncing off your post.

Sorry for the confusion.

What a stupid post. Do you know for sure his kids have been home without both parents the whole time? His wife likely only came for the expo and the match.

Oh, you didn't even think of the expo, did you? The place where john likely sold more cases in 3 days than he will the rest of the year. Supposedly all the custom line of cases sold out the first day. He also made other business stops along the way.

I know I dropped $700 on an ultimate rugged and ordered another custom leather case. That took all of 15 minutes of their time. I'm sure the other 3+ days of sales were at least ok.

10k is a lot of money to some but the man got to live a pool life, even if just for a short time, that most of us would sign up for if we could.

Any man who is goaded into betting money he can't afford should be ashamed of themselves. Many lives are destroyed by this addiction. I don't think that was the case here, John said it wasn't so that's that. And maybe if he finds a good accountant he can write the 10k off as a marketing expense.

And now I hope JB gets back to work so I can get my case in 8 weeks, haha.

You all seem to be taking this much harder than me. If all of you want to take a lesson from it then let it be to remember that no matter how much you think you are writing words that "shouldn't" bother someone else that there is a person on the other side who might not get your humor and be actually hurt over what you write to and about them.

JB....there are many wanna bees flying:angel:around this forum. Many have and will never be in the trenches of the game like you have long ago, and thus....have mostly just Opinions from a microscope. Like I've said many times before, being on this forum is like being in a pool room....and many that Hang in a pool room are there because in many other areas of society they are not easily accepted or liked. I've met many good people in pool rooms over fifty years of play, but have come across a hundred times more who I would never associate with in real life.

PS....Lou would have his hands full playing you in 9 ball....too full.

Here's my truth.

As far as what either guy "should" or "shouldn't" do with their money, energy or time, I'll leave those concerns to the people that truly care about them, themselves.

I did however, actually watch most of this match and found myself (without a bet) caring a bit about the outtcome. I don't know what the viewership numbers were, and maybe the match would be a poor barometer because it was free, but from personal experience and from the activity generated here in chat, I'd for sure be taking a hard look at it were I a streamer.

This match and OMGWTF/CubC were, for me, far more engaging matches to watch tham most (if not all) of the top-flite matches I've watched in the past.

Pool has a lot of trouble attracting an audience, and take a look at the interest generated here in a match between 2, what? B players?

Kevin

This match happened because two guys shot off their mouths on the internet. Plain and simple. It is shameful behavior. A whole pack of people piled on too, which made it worse. There is nothing here to be proud of, nothing noble. Does either guy really seem like they can afford to gamble 10K or 20K on a pool match? Not to me they don't.

Furthermore, any of you so-called gamblers who respect someone for gambling their hard earned money, their family's savings or children's potential college fund on a pool game needs to seriously examine their values. There is a culture among gamblers that talks of respect for what is basically reckless, self-destructive behavior. Do we praise someone who falls down stinking drunk every night? Yet we praise someone who gambles large?

I gamble for entertainment, just enough to sweat. No harm in that. We are fathers, workers, employers, husbands. At some point, as mature men, we need to accept that our actions affect a lot of people who depend on us and act responsibly We shouldn't let our ego's dictate our actions. I watched the match and enjoyed it. But let's not forget why this match really took place.

The plain truth is, it was pitiful.
