It's a hard list to create. Try it :-) 10 was the hardest spot to fill for me lol. Fats made based off being an ambassador of the game.

damn, i forgot fats, he gets an honor mention as the greatest personality and best bettor of all time. His talent was not up to par with some of his time, but his mind was sharper than a straight razor.

You could narrow it down even further such as one pocket, banks, rotation and straight pool and the few guys that fall into all of those would be a good start for the top spots. Its hard to leave out the best bank pool players just because there are a ton of guys out there that would beat them playing 9 or 10 ball.

I love seeing rankings lists. I give anybody credit for putting theirs out there. That being said a criteria must be named and implemented. Obviously if all around was emphasized than efren would be higher. Tournament success appears to be valued. Would be interesting to see the whole article.

Like I said....criteria

Ronny Allen won't make this list...and he can give serious weight to a bunch of them.

The title does say '50 GREATEST OF ALL TIME'

If it's to be a Hall of Fame for greatest contributions, then I don't mind
just going with the BCA HOF

NEW POLL ON MAIN FORUM, MULTIPLE CHOICES

1999, billiards digest gave us the best 50 of the century. #1 was a carom champion, willie hoppe. I play pool, most of us in this country do, that means 15 colored balls, a white ball and six pockets, the game is a variation of any of that, 9,8, 10, 14.1, you get the picture. and although willie was peobably the greatest of all time in his game, I want to make it about pool and include some of todays talent. someone probably already did this, but I haven't seen it. Anyone willing to start a poll, which I have no clue how to do, is much appreciated. heres the original:
truth be told, no clue who some of these are.

I'm having trouble with any 1-pocket list that doesn't have Ronnie Allen's name on it.

Here's another thread about the 1999 Billiards Digest list: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=241035

And they didn't include snooker or English billiards (and likely some others) players for reasons bizarre enough to be left unexplained. Fair enough, the new list only includes pool players. Needs criteria though - are we talking tournament players or are we talking myths and legends as well?

Rudolph Walderon

Minnesota fats was a pompous ass who was a legend in his own mind and who stole the legend of a fictional character. ..

Your right, thats what I was saying earlier. Its easier to make any kind of top player list what have you if you do it by different aspects of the game such as one pocket, rotation, banks, straight pool and so on. That list there is just one I thought up of good players, not necessarily a one pocket list.

Start a one pocket poll. come up with ten names. the poll has tournament players with a paper trail, they can be justified. Im certain there are one pocket players, both past and present, that won thousands upon thousands of dollars and only a few people were there to see it. Its hard to justify a hustlers game, ronnie allen is legendary, but thats all I know.
