I'm going to pull the trigger on a new cue today. Would it be unwise to not choose 1 or maybe 2 day shipping? I'm just worried about warping from potentially baking in a hot delivery truck or something of that nature.
Should I choose 1 day shipping for a new cue?

if the cue warps in 3-4 days then you shouldnt be buying that cue. I use priority all the time and no issues so far.
In general you should be fine with 2 or 3 days.
I would not want on the truck or at the USPS or UPS longer than that.
In the end you have to ask youself, what is it work to get it to you fast?
If it is a $200 cue then wait.
If it is $2,000 cue I would pay the overnight shipping.

Most of the country isn't that hot right now...I'd take into consideration the weather and where it's coming from. If you're talking a ground shipment from the other side of the country in the middle of summer when temps in the south can hit 100* then yeah, probably worth springing for it, especially on a reasonably expensive cue. This time of year and for shorter trips, I wouldn't worry too much. Now, if you're talking a $2000 cue then I'd probably do it just to be safe, the ratio of shipping charge to cue value is pretty small at that point.
It may be different in WV but around here they no longer "sell" you the tracking/delivery confirmation....it automatically comes with it :grin:

So....it just depends on how much you want to spend.
It's not that hot now in the east to really *need* overnight, imo.
With most everything I have shipped lately.....priority has been running just 2 days.
As of this year, Priority comes with tracking standard.

Do you already have a cue picked out and are just waiting to decide on shipping? Priority is your best bet and should be 2-3 days like most have said. I sent a cue to a neighboring state and it took 4 days once, I also sent one to CA (from Indiana) on Monday and it arrived before noon Wednesday. One good thing about next day shipping is the insurance is cheap.
Last one I ordered came from Maryland to here in southern Ontario, Canada. It took 6 days and was shipped on the biggest snowfall and cold temperature week of the entire year. (-30c) I was quite nervous about the cold weather but it was fine. As a custom woodworker I find that it's the up and down temperatures and the humidity that do the damage.

Personally speaking.......my cues cost too much to take any risk.
Bought and sold 3 Josswest cues & 1 RB cue and my Scruggs & Mottey cues were all next day shipping.
My two cues under construction right now will ship the same way when completed........how much more does it add? It's pennies when considering the cue price.
Remember heat can wrap any cue? Sloppy handling or slow moving packages are more susceptible to potential damage. Batalarms was right...the faster the item moves through the carrier's system, the more attention it receives and fast moving items get better handling....and should since you're paying extra........don't be a cheapskate now and regret it later......at least do 2 days delivery. And Cueaddicts does this all the time and some of his cues are breath-taking........he should know what works reliably......but for me, cue shipping is always as fast as possible.

Having worked in the shipping carrier industry....the general rule of thumb is the less time it spends in the hands of the carrier, the better.
