Its very true. You wouldn't attempt to put any race car on a track or strip if it needed a wheel alignment would you.

Same with a game of pool. You have enuff variables to contend with as it is without trying to make it more difficult with a crooked cue.

Just because you can do it doesn't mean that you want to.

Justin Bergman plays with very warped shaft he just makes sure he has it turned the right way when he shoots he got a new cue and for some reason went back to the warped one and plays jam up with it

I have often wondered why a cue has to be
straight? Why do some people put so much
importance on it? If it is a measure of quality
then fine, but once the tip is lined up on the
ball how does it matter what path the tip takes
on its way to the correct spot?

OR, does a different bend on the wood
make that much of a difference
in how the wood moves the cue ball, but
if the cue is held with the same bend each shot
then this variable is gone.

What do you think?

Great Question, it only matters if the cue is so bad, that it is putting unintentional english, or it hits your bridge hand where it is bent before it hits the cb.
provided you go down at the exact line of aim.

I think that the straighter the cue, the more efficiently it would transfer energy to the cue ball. That said, as long as it is straight enough for the tip, joint, and buttcap to stay on the table when rolled it doesn't matter enough for anyone to tell.

My cue needs to be straight for the same reason my car has to be clean.

If you want to drive up in an old rusty shit box with half eaten sandwiches, pop cans and cigarette butts all over the floor and shoot with a crooked ass cue more power to you.

It won't affect the outcome of our game to my knowledge.

But I don't roll that way. It's just vanity I guess.

i took a Poll tonight. EVERYone called BS.
but what i found interesting, was when i asked Earl's protege....
....i had a house cue in hand - slightly warped; hand-picked.
he never even rolled it.
he held it out and eyed-it.
showed it to me.
asked me: WHERE IS IT OFF?
we agreed @ 14 inches in from tip.

he regrabbed it @ half-shaft & tip.
and fricken JERKED it.
into place.
and said:
