Best shot of my life... so far =P

Hey guys, I was in a match last night - race to 3 a piece, I won the first two games and was on the hill in the third game =P

Here's what happened. The woman I was playing decided to break her balls out here and play a safe simultaneously.

She hits them well and plays a beautiful safe that would stop most players, but in looking at the shot, she left just a hair of space between both of her balls (and I mean probably a mm space on either side of the CB).

She calls over an APA 7 to watch my shot making sure I don't clip one of her balls first - and I don't. I sink my bank and she storms off mad because a "player of my level shouldn't be able to do that."

Whatever haha - this is definitely one of the best shots I've ever taken.

She got mad because she played a bad safe and you made a one rail bank? She needs to grow some thicker skin! JMHO

Nice bank by the way. If I play a bad safe and a player at any level pots a make-able shot, I would certainly not get mad unless it were at myself for the poor safety.

Her fault for not leaving you glued to the 3 on the rail. She left you the field goal and you made the shot. Nice job :)

Congratulations on your successful shot.

The best shot of my life was playing snooker on a 6x12. The last red was where the three is in your diagram, the blue was between the CB and the three heading toward where the blue spots in snooker and the CB was about a foot in front of the side pocket...

I purposely massed around the blue and CUT the red into the upper left corner.

Best shot I ever intentionally made.

MO,

She was actually mad since the first game where she played a safety that she thought was feasible "because of my level and there's no way I should be able to bank the way I do."

She froze the cue ball against the short rail by the first diamond close to the diagrams upper left corner pocket, and the 8 ball against the long rail by the "question mark" in the diagram and I made that bank as well.

Ever since that game she was mad at me.

That's like a shot Jayson Shaw made in a match against SVB, at 5:38 here

Incredible safe by SVB. Shaw surprises everyone.

What happened? Last we heard, you were a SL-5 and just crushed an 8....did you get lowered back to a 4?

Nice shot!

This is probably my best in-game shot. Giving up the last 2. Double hill, and running out from the 1 ball, I end up without much angle on the 8. I thought about cinching the 8, and banking the 9, but the 9 was frozen. Maybe it could be banked, but I'm not comfortable with that shot.

I loaded up with bottom right, and stroked it as well I could. Worked out.

You probably aren't going to believe this is accurate, but I'm going to give you the best advice you can be given in pool.

Stop overestimating your own ability.

Understand that when I make a statement about pool - it's from what I play around which is a limited player population.

I'm 19 - can only play in one spot or two in Illinois and haven't been able to meet many great pool players.

Now - based on the player population I'm accustomed to: most players would not have been able to make that shot.

I understand completely. And, from a technical standpoint, you're not even incorrect. It's likely most people who've ever played pool would be unable to make that shot.

What is more important for you to understand is that you too would probably miss that shot more often than not. I was only slightly giving you a hard time... though I was. Still, heed the advice. One of the worst things you can do in this game is overestimate your own ability.

Send me a PM and let me know where you are in Illinois.

big deal lol she blew the safe and you made a one rail bank that by what you make your skill level out to be was more a guess then skill. It's nothing for her to get mad at..luck plays a part in pool.

So true. If I'm playing a player who is above my level in 8 ball, the solids and stripes are both tricky and my opponent is making it hard for me then if I make a lot of tough shots well and win the rack - well, I look (and feel) like a great player. On another day, if I get all of those shots marginally wrong ( and therefore don't get to play all those shots of course) or the table/cloth/balls don't help me then I will look average (although my team mates will all say "unlucky, well played").

Having said that - great shop OP. The stakes involved (you miss and your opponent cleans up) make it an even greater shot.

Here are two shots that I made in one night, one of that great nights, when you play the perfect pool and everything in your game seems to be effortless.

I played 8 ball, race to 5, for 10$ :) The score is 4-3, my opponent is on the hill and left me with this position, I'm with solids. I look at the table and made the decision to kick the ball, instead of playing the safe. I was confident, so I shoot the cueball near the middle pocket, made the 3 ball and obtain a perfect position for the 8. Score became 4-4, and I won the last game and the match.

After that match with other opponent we played a 10 ball match, race to 7. The score is 3-0 for him, and I'm breaking, broke and made 3 balls, another 7 balls are nicely spread. I start to runout, made the 8 ball, but obtain a tricky position for 9 ball, I didn't want to cut it in the middle pocket so I decided to shoot the bank, I hit it and made it Hooray!!!! I was happy for couple seconds, when I saw the position to the 10 ball. It was a disaster, the cueball almost touches the 10 ball. I had no idea how to play the safe, and most of all I wanted to make that break & run, so I called the 10 ball in corner pocket, put the English on cue ball, and made the object ball right in the middle of the corner pocket. It was marvelous :)
I won that match on the hill hill game.

Good shot. Where did your cue ball end up. Maybe you make that shot x number of times out of 10 but more importantly where did you leave the CB if you miss. The 8 out of 10 times you miss, she is probably out. Not taking anything away from the shot but just thinking percentages.

Damn, I clicked on this expecting to see some exciting shot. Well, nice shot but not very noteworthy.

Good shot zphix ^^
It's great to do it in league.
Sucks people get uptight when someone makes a great shot when really they should be
congratulating them.

I mean, if you think about it, it's not like you showed superhuman bank aiming abilities
and cut that ball exactly right to make the shot.
If there's only a mm on either side of the ball you pretty much hit the 8 ball
in the only place it COULD be hit without fouling. How's it your fault
if you make a hit the only way you could, and it happens to be straight in for a bank?

If you had JUMPED and made the bank and called the pocket, then I could see her
crying that you're under-ranked :)

nice shot... what would you have done if the eight had been a fraction of an inch to the left or right of its original position?

sometimes the stars align.
